My younger daughter left Iraq in December, and after being debriefed at her home post in Fairbanks, was given three days of leave to come home for Christmas.

We were so relieved to have her back in the states, and it was so wonderful to have her home. She and I managed to be together in a more adult way this time - we planned for her to have friend time and family time, and I tried really hard to treat her like the young adult she is. It's just SO hard to think of her as being grown up! She'll always be my little girl, but that image was harder to maintain once I realized that she's been in a war zone for the past year. I finally was able to get my head around "she's a big girl now," and was able to treat her like one. I know SHE appreciated it.

We had a wonderful visit - got our nails and feet done at the local salon, did some serious Christmas shopping, and all too soon her visit was over and she had to head back to her job in Fairbanks. It wasn't enough time - not even CLOSE to enough time. She was so cooperative with everything - even being agreeable to having this "one last photo" taken, in spite of the pressure of getting to the airport on time.

The next time we see her will be when Tom and I go to Alaska this summer to see her in HER home surroundings. I'm looking forward to it already. I can do that because there won't be any SNOW by the time we get there.

The flowers are my January "Flower of the Month" flower class for my LSS and the layout was done as a kit for that project.

Thanks for taking a peek!
