Monday, September 19th, 2011 – First thing – check on the turtle eggs and start digging up the babies. Only 257 baby turtles this morning.

We checked at the desk of our hotel for our passports/visas. They hadn't been delivered yet so we decided to go about our day; we would check at the hotel main desk for out passports when we got back.

For lunch I wanted to eat in the pool bar at the Bel Air hotel. That is the restaurant that has a shallow pool with tables and chairs in the water. We ate there in January and we really had fun! We both had the fish and chips meal and I had chicken soup.

We swam for a while at the Bel Air when we noticed the staff setting up a small canopy on the beach a few feet from the pool. (It's a raised infinity pool and the water goes right to the edge so it looks like the pool water blends with the ocean.) We watched the set up for about 50 guests while two men dug shallow holes on the beach and filled them with seaweed so the beach would be clean. It was kind of futile, as seaweed washed on the beach faster than they could bury it so they eventually gave up

Wedding guests started arriving and it was hysterical watching the women walking across the sand in very high heels – the spikes went into the sand with every step. Some took their shoes off and carried them, but for those who walked across the beach in high heels – we couldn't help but laugh. They were wobbling all over the place!

Then the wedding party; the bridesmaids made their way through the sand in spike heels – not gracefully either. The ceremony was in Spanish but it appeared to be nice. I was surprised that during the ceremony they have a “signing of the documents” where the bride and groom sign papers and their parents sign them and then witnesses. Now we know why there was a table and why the bride and groom were on the other side of the table – so they faced the seated guests. It was so they table would be there while they were signing the documents. The couple had their back to the ocean.

Bill had a 6:00 PM dental appointment so I chilled in the room until he got home – then we had dinner at the restaurant by the pool at our hotel.

By the end of the day – still no passports. Now it was getting scary. It was Monday night and we had tickets for a flight departing Cancun at 12:15 PM on Wednesday and without our passports we couldn't get out of Mexico! Time to start getting a little worried.

Bill checked the tracking number for our passports and we couldn't believe it – it said they would be delivered by 6:00PM on Wednesday – almost 6 hours after our flight was scheduled to leave. Uh oh….. now we had a big problem!

Tuesday, September 20tt, 2011 – Our last full day in Cancun! Bill counted exactly 274 turtles. We knew that the local Fed Ex office would deliver our passports no later than 6:00 PM Wednesday night, after we were supposed to be on a flight out of Mexico so Bill went downtown to the main Fed Ex office to see if there was any chance it would get there today to be sorted for tomorrow's deliveries. That was our only chance of getting our passports so we could catch our flight out of Mexico!

What a relief when Bill was told that our passports were expected to be delivered to the main office by 3:00 o'clock today sorting and then they would be sent to the local Fed Ex near our hotel for delivery tomorrow afternoon. But, if he was at the main Fed Ex office by 3:00 o'clock they would give him our package with our passports today. He went to the dentists office for his final appointment and then back to the Fed Office by 3:00 o'clock. No passports.

The last chance to get them before our flight was scheduled to leave was if they on the 5:30 truck!

Bill wandered around down town, got a haircut and returned to the Fed Ex office by 5:30. The truck was not there yet and the Fed Ex office closed at 6:00. In 30 minutes we were out of luck.

Exactly 10 minutes before the Fed Ex office closed for the day, the truck arrived and they had our passports! Bill was able to pick them up before they were sent to the local Fed Ex office for next delivery afternoon after we were supposed to be on our flight! If the truck had been 10 minutes later, we wouldn't have been able to catch our flight out of Mexico at 12:15 the next day and we were holding non-refundable tickets. I don't think it is possible to cut it any closer than this!
