In Victoria, Australia, going to "The Prom" does not involve a ballgown, tux, limo and corsage. "The Prom" is not the senior year, adolescent rite of passage we know so well here in the USA. No, "The Prom" is the affectionate nickname for "Wilson's Promontory" a national park, located at the southern most tip of the Australian mainland. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and it holds a special place in my heart. Whenever I am back in Australia, I try to make time to visit and enjoy this lovely place.
"The Prom" is largely undeveloped, unspoilt and is generously endowed with beautiful beaches, abundunt native flora and fauna and diverse ecosystems. The park offers many scenic hiking opportunities and clean beaches, truly a paradise for nature lovers. Only one sealed road leads in and out of the park, and visitor accommodation is limited mostly to tents and camper trailers. A large portion of the park remains wilderness and many of the beaches are accessible only on foot. Rosellas and wombats abound, kookaburras, emus, kangaroos and koalas are all likely to be seen at least once during a visit to The Prom.
This photo is of Norman Bay, taken from the summit of Mount Bishop, which can be climbed as part of the Lilly Pilly Gully walk. The day was warm and sunny, so most people were enjoying the beach and I saw very few people on the climb up to the top. The hike was worth the effort. At the top, it was so peaceful and serene, a tonic for the soul. The air was fresh, the sky blue and the only noise I heard was that of birds. It was pure joy.
Thanks to Mum and Tina for setting me up with the stunning Kaisercraft line of Aussie themed papers "Great Southern Land", and the equally stunning coordinating die cut pieces, which were just perfect for this photo.
This is my first lo in a very long while, it's good to be back. Thanks for looking and for all the comments and votes you take the time to leave. Much appreciated.
