What an amazing LO to an amazing story. I love the bg paper and how you did the date. Your husband captured some intense photos! I bet he has an awesome scrapbook of his career huh? Love this, a fave!
Thanks for sharing such an amazing story of your brave husband. I love how you have created this page, the colours, the masking, chaotic patterned paper photo mat, and the filmstrip date. A standout page.
Wow! Such an amazing story and what a brave act on Bob's part! It is wonderful how you have captured this piece of family history! The photo's give me chills to know how real and scary this must have been!
What a remarkable story!! I was 21 years old at the time and trying to rack my brain to recall that story. Your husband was truly a brave and honorable soul for doing what he did. So wonderful how he was nominated for the Pulitzer. Thanks for sharing your layout and story Cindy.
Awesome layout Cindy. You'd think I'd remember that. I guess being 17 with a new boyfriend and a senior in high school I was all wrapped up in my own life.
OMG! what a moment! I'm with Alice, that photo does take your breath away! So glad every was safe! I so love how you document and preserve all these moments in your life.
wow! what an amazing story…that photo just sends shivers down my spine! Bob was so brave and I am so glad he was unharmed. A very powerful LO; the background works so well with the story and pics.
This is some life you and your husband have lived. Your lo of this terrifying moment is beautiful. This is a great way to record this day. I like how the one paper looks like smoke. It makes me think of photos I've seen of war.
oh my goodness Cindy - this is certainly a piece of your family's history that needed to be scrapped and preserved. I am in awe of Bob's bravery. You've displayed the photos perfectly and retold the details wonderfully. all I can say is "WOW"!!!
Wow. What a heroic move your hubby made by exchanging himself and..then convincing the gunman to give up. And photographing the incident. Congrats on the awards and the nomination!! Wonderful historical page. Like the film strip date, stenciling and overall design.
While working at the Charleston Daily Mail, Bob was involved in a hostage-taking incident at a small church in St. Albans where a gunman wanted to protest the government's treatment of Vietnam Vets. The gunman seized the church and its congregation and demanded media coverage of his protest. Bob exchanged himself for some of the hostages and went inside the church, where he photographed the standoff for several hours and finally helped persuade the gunman to give up peacefully.
The photos were published throughout the world, winning several awards and a nomination for a Pulitzer Prize.
