Journaling:
Every day you would come home from school and I would ask, “What did you learn in school today?” and you would say, “Nothing!” Sometimes I would ask how school was today to which you would respond, “Fine.” Either way, off you’d go play. Unlike your sister who would tell me everything, I had to pull teeth to get the tiniest information out of you.

Then one day about 8 weeks into the school year, you said, “I think it’s time to tell you what I’ve learned in school!” I was so excited; finally we would get to hear something about your adventures in kindergarten. You took us, your little sister and me, to the ‘Talk About Room’ (your name for the living room. We usually hung out in the family room and the living room wasn’t used very much unless we has unexpected company since it was always clean and neat – hence you called it the “Talk About Room”).

I was expecting great things – after all you were my first born, absolutely adorable, super genius son! You proceeded to sing us six songs: I’m a Little Teapot, the Alphabet Song, a couple of others and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. Your sister sat in rapt attention on the floor mimicking all the hand movements you made. I still smile when I think about that day so long ago.
