It's a shame that such a distinguished original settler should be mistaken for a witch. Besides, why would the town erect a statue to honor the very people they executed?? Duh. (Great layout!)
Holy smokes...Mr. Conant was 87 when he died. That is pretty old for that time frame. It is a creepy looking bronze statue. I can see the confusion about it. I am loving this weird place.
On the street corner in front of the Witch Dungeon Museum we saw the statue that we had seen from the trolley. The one of the founder of Salem which National Geographic mistakenly identified as one of Salem's witches from the witch trials in a TV documentary. It was kind of scary looking – If I hadn't heard the story or read the sign, I would have thought it was one of the witches too!
