Don't know how I missed this one. Luckily, it was showcased on the front page. You nailed the "woodsy" and masculine feel of his of this page. The chain was the perfect touch. Wow!!! The journaling was so interesting a nugget of history. Thanks for teaching me something.
Thanks for letting me add another one of your great layouts to my faves!! I'm definitely going to have to find that pic of my family's first truck for the September Heritage challenge!!! The tag quote is awesome for all of us non-Execs - regardless of profession!!!
This is the coolest layout!! Love your design, metal elements, die cut tree and everything else. I know the Grapevine very well. Back when I bought my first new car I had an after market air conditioner installed in it. I was coming back from a trip to Santa Paula, if I remember correctly, and on the way up the Grapevine my car started overheating. I had to stop at the top and add some water to the radiator. Truckers there told me they would be behind me....a long way behind me!! LOL I made it Bakersfield before the radiator blew and it cracked the engine block. What a trip!! My brother and sis-in-law came and towed me home to Fresno with their Jeep. That was a memorable trip to say the least!
This is my Uncle Milt ready to return to northern Cal after delivering a load of logs to the Port of Long Beach. Taken in the late '40s or early '50s. There's a bit of a back story to trucking in that era: The speed limit for trucks was 47mph. To get to LA, he had to cross the Grape Vine (a pass in southern Cal that used to be notorious), and the trucks moved so slowly on the uphill grade that the drivers sometimes got out and walked beside them. Another favorite pastime was reading the newspaper!
Created for the Heritage challenge, it will also be entered in the HOARDERS and 2017 Volume challenges.
Other supplies: MME and Glitz Design - patterned papers
