I remember when we went there when we were kids. There was a glassblower and he made a little tiny vase. My mother loved the vase and my dad bought it for her. That had to be nearly 60 years ago and its still in my mother's china cabinet. I haven't been back since then and you are making me definitely want to plan a trip here. We have passed so close many times, we need to actually stop and visit this beautiful tower! Thank you for reminding me about it! I've really enjoyed your Bok Tower pages! I didn't know any of the history.
That must be a beautifully artistic door. I love your photos and rich look of this layout. The variety of papers is so pretty against the photos. Lovely page for a lovely memory.
I used 6 different pps on this layout - HOTP, Teresa Collins, Recollections, American Crafts (some of the black pp - B side), plus gold paper and black cs for photos. Gold stickers, brads, MME enamel arrow.
Journaling - Edward William Bok died within sight of his beloved Singing Tower on January 9, 1930, and is buried at the base of the Tower in front of the Great Brass Door.
Bok enlisted Samuel Yellin, America’s premier metalworker, to create several elements to adorn the Carillon Tower. Yellin designed the brass door and the wrought iron gates on the north side of the Tower. The iron gates leading to the Tower were hand-wrought and feature birds with various expressions and wings for flight. The Great Door is a masterpiece and depicts the Biblical story of creation, the Book of Genesis, starting with the creation of light and ending with Adam and Eve being banished from the Garden of Eden.
