This is the companion page for my Leo layout and tells a bit about him.
LEO
Leo was our first foster with Turbokees. He was turned into the shelter by a man with the brief explanation of I have to drop him off before the kids come home. Elisa the vice president of Turbokees was contacted because she also did work with fox valley shelter and they knew he was a keeshond.
He was in sorry shape when she went to go see him. He was very withdrawn and sad and showing signs of depression. He was in very poor condition. While he was overweight, he had obviously been on a poor diet as his coat was very coarse and dull. He had severe ear infections and there was scar tissue that showed he had them repeatedly in the past. As a result, his ears flopped over instead of standing up as they should. His left canine was badly infected and was actually hanging on by a thread of tissue and lay sideways in his mouth. He was in so much pain that the vet was able to snip the tissue and remove the tooth without anesthesia. His coat had been shaved and he had a weird looking ridge of longer hair like a mohawk on his back. Elisa sat in his kennel and talked to him and let him come to her it took about an hour but he did. She recognized the sweet soul he was and she was the one that named him Leo.
When we got him, he had just been neutered and then his incision got infected. We had to lay warm compresses on him. He was very patient and accepting through the ordeal and we cured his infections and got him well. He turned into the sweetest dog. He just loved people and especially children. On walks he would pull us towards children and I remember once on a walk he was surrounded by children that wanted to pet him and he was just as happy as could be. He was such a sweet, loving friendly dog.
It was obvious he had not really known life as a member of the family and he did not know what dog toys were and a lot of the other routines around the house. He watched my boys and learned from them. They taught him about how to climb stairs, how to jump into a car and what toys were, amongst other things. It was so cute he started grabbing a toy and greeting us at the door with one in his mouth he was so proud to have his own toys!
He was adopted by a lovely couple that own a bicycle shop in Crystal Lake. They took Leo to work with them every day. He stayed in the shop with them and on days off he hung out in the yard and helped the wife garden. He was so friendly and sweet that he became a local celebrity and his owners laughed that they were a quick 15 minute walk home from their store to home, but it often took them over an hour because of all the people that wanted to pet Leo. Many locals stopped by the shop just to say hello to him.
He was such a great dog and he went to the perfect home for him. He got to be with his people all the time. When he got older his new owners ordered a little cart/stroller to attach to their bike so they could take him on bike rides with them. He had a really rough start to life but wound up in place where he was loved with a great life.
