I used a stencil and a combo of paper piecing and paper cutting here. The R is paper pieced and the ornaments are cut and backed with a scrap of Marrakech paper (BasicGrey). I liked the effect and will use it again. My only caveat is that 1953 book paper is awfully hard to cut as it is very delicate.
