In Cape Verde, the women carry things on their heads. Every where you go see women with big heavy things on their heads. They talk to each other on street corners with big things on their heads. They keep their hands free - you never see them carrying things in their hands. They use their heads. Some of these were taken in the market, some walking on the street, some even driving along dirt roads. At first I went crazy taking pictures of women with things on their heads. Then after a while, there were so many that I quit taking pictures of them.
Note - not in journaling - just look at the woman on the left in the upper right hand picture! The stack of stuff on her head is a mile high. I can't even start to imagine what all that stuff weighs. She has a blue laundry basket which is full and has more and more things stacked up high on top of it!
