    • Hi there!

Other brands of dies will work with our machines as long as you follow the proper usage of adapters and accessories for the dies. However please keep in mind that all Sizzix-brand dies have been tested and designed to be used with our machines! Other brand dies may have not been tested by our machines before and cannot be held liable to any damages through misuse. By: Sizzix (07-Sep-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • What die cut machine is easier to turn. I am older and have wrist issues.   By: joanOfArt2001 (19-Apr-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I believe you should get an electric machine such as the Gemini by Crafters Companion if you do a lot of die cutting and embossing. I was quite limited by the number of times I could crank a die cut through! However, there is a place for the Big Shot, as well. It's less complicated than other machines if you're only doing a few die cuts. By: paulablock (14-Aug-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. • I find that it depends on your “sandwich”. I enjoy this machine (it was an investment/upgrade for me!) and if I am using a thin die with thin paper it cranks through like a breeze. However, if I’m squeezing a thicker sandwich through (thicker paper sometimes adhesive backed, fatter dies) then it can be somewhat hard to crank. I like that you can adjust the thickness of the multi purpose platform just a hair, so that helps! Your other option would be an electric machine, to avoid having to crank...but I’ve never used one. Can I use spellbinder dies with this machine and will it emboss?   By: User (10-Jan-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I have an older version of the Big Shot and it works perfectly with Spellbinder dies. You can emboss with it as well. When you want to emboss something you need to adjust the tabs on the cutting platform. The directions for cutting and embossing are printed on the cutting platform so you know which tabs to use when cutting or embossing. • What is included with this package? Can I emboss with what is included? And what about using thinlets? Or do I need to buy these plates separately?   By: Chantele (13-Jun-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The machine came with the standard platform and 2 cutting plates. All other platforms I bought separately! Also included the rectangle dies. These are not the nesting dies! I bought the magnetic plate and love to use that when cutting with dies! No problem with thinlets. By: Scrapgrammy4117 (15-Jun-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! I tried cutting with the square die and when I cranked it through I could only go a little ways. It was too hard to turn, and I was afraid I would break something.   By: User (10-Oct-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I'm having the same problem with my new Big Shot. I'm using one of the nested dies that came bundled with the machine and a thin piece of paper (not cardstock thickness). I have followed the sandwich directions as printed on the base, as well as all the YouTube videos I have watched. It is so hard to turn that I fear I'm going to break it, and it doesn't cut through the paper. I really thought I'd love this machine, but I'm feeling some buyer's remorse. By: jinmo69 (13-May-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • As long as you are using the correct sandwich, you should be able to cut this if you just slightly turn the die so it's going in at a slight angle. By: Sonshine1296 (10-Oct-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • Do you have to have a separate rubber mat (like with the Cuttlebug) to emboss with this machine? Will all my existing dies (mostly from sets with stamps) and embossing folders (mostly Cuttlebug) work with this? Thank you!   By: amyscraftystyle (04-May-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • You should receive everything necessary to emboss with your machine. For added versatility, you can use the Impressions Pad and Silicone Rubber (sold separately) to emboss with any metal stencil including Thinlits Dies. There is also a Premium Crease Pad available. This is used with dies that have crease or score blades. Hope this helps! By: Scrapbook.com (10-May-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. I'm considering getting a die cut machine. From those who have used/own them, what is the best one in your opinion? For ease of use and any brand dies that work with them, there is so much to think about and I'm becoming confused. Any wisdom to offer in making a choice?   By: User (27-Feb-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I have a Sizzix Big Shot and I have loved using it over the years (I think I have had my machine for close to 10 years now). A year or two ago, something wasn't working correctly on my machine. My dad helped me take it apart and we noticed that a part needed to be replaced. I called Sizzix and they sent me replacement parts at no cost. Now my machine is working perfectly once again. I have used Sizzix branded dies, Spellbinders dies and a few other brands of wafer thin dies. They all cut well using my Big Shot. By: ChristineRae (23-Mar-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I think that the Big Shot is sturdier and easier to use. I used a Cuttlebug at a local scrapbooking store and it just didn't seem as solid when using the crank on it. I am very happy that I decided to purchase the Big Shot over the Cuttlebug. By: ChristineRae (23-Mar-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. What is the difference between a big shot and cuttlebug? They both emboss and die cut and take paper 6 inches wide.   By: User (15-Nov-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The Big Shot will accommodate the thicker steel rule dies ( they are much thicker and stronger- will cut thru chipboard) whereas the Cuttlebug will only take embossing folders and the thin die cuts By: moogies (25-Nov-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Hi, wondering if this is a good machine for fabric. I would use it more for quilting and other fabric crafts. Although I do love to scrapbook and the idea that it would work great for both. Also do you have to buy different accessories for fabric and paper? If so that could get expensive.
Really love this machine!!   By: Mumzie40 (08-Apr-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Yes, this machine will work with fabric. However, it is the dies that make the difference. In order to cut heavier materials, you will likely need to purchase steel rule dies as they have more of a cutting blade for thicker materials. Hope this helps! • This machine is kind of heavy when lifting onto a table, etc. also remember it is a manual machine so you are turning the handle to move the paper & dies through the machine which can be hard on your wrists.
