Love the embossing folder, not the dies
I bought the Lisa Horton Butterflies 3-D Embossing Folder to make embellishments for cards. Initial inspection of the EF led me to believe the embossing was not 3-D, but when I sprayed my cardstock, put it in my folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine it performed wonderfully. I have been happily making butterflies since.
The information regarding the dies that come with the folder was confusing: It sounded like this was a folder that cut and embossed at the same time and seemed to explain the high cost. Well, it turned out the dies are not built into the folder and are not a single die that cuts five shapes: There are five separate frame dies in the package. The information blurb and pictures on this webpage could have been much clearer. I am not happy about the price I paid and wish an option to buy the EF alone had been offered. I suspect that the dies will prove difficult to use with this folder (and were a wasteful purchase) because if you cut the paper out before embossing, it will have to be taped to hold in place while embossing, and I don't relish the idea, or the reality, of picking the embossed pieces of tape off my 3-D embossed butterflies. If you use the dies after the embossing you will flatten the embossing as the card runs through the die-cutting machine. This design really called for the dies to be built into the EF.
