      Silhouette

I LOVE my Silhouette!!! I just bought it in December (after doing a lot of research), and I use it practically every day. Quickutz has just done a major upgrade, so you can weld words and do a lot of new things with the Silhouette. One of the things I like about it is I don't have to buy cartridges - I can just use any True Type font on my PC. It came with 50 images, and with the latest upgrade, I now have over 100 images - for free.

Quickutz also just came out with a new Silhouette SD that doesn't need to be connected to a PC. It operates much the same way that the original did but is more portable.

      Best bang for the buck!

When compared to the other systems, the Silhouette really is a winner, hands down. Printing up to 8 inches wide and 14 inches long for paper, it allows me to die cut most of the designs I would ever want to print. No cartridges needed, either, so you save a huge expense there, as well as no additional software to buy to use it with your computer. If you choose to purchase Quickutz dies, the prices are great, but you can also find many free designs around the web. I love my Silhouette!

Everything...Anything...It's ALL Possible with this machine!!

I absolutely love my silhouette. I purchased it about a 1 1/2 months ago and I use it on every single LO. I recommend this cutter due to the price and the ease of finding GSD files that are unique to use. You can search the web for hundreds and hundreds of files to cut. You can create lettering with mats and lettering with die cuts, you can cut all your own diecuts, such as arrows and circles, flowers and swirls!! The machine doesn't cost nearly as much as some of the other machines and your only costs is the original purchase price and paper!!! You don't need any carts or templates...just the machine & paper! You can sharpen your blade and resticky your mat to make them lasts lots longer.

This machine doesn't cut chipboard, which is the only thing I wish it did that it doesn't. I love using chipboard, but other than that...this machine could not be better!

There are pens that you can buy in order to draw with the machine, but that isn't even necessary. I was able to wrap some paper around a gel pen, stick it in there, and it worked perfectly!!!!

      I Love My Silhouette!

This is a fantastic little tool. Really easy to use once you understand what it does. And the newest version of the software does weld words!! That improvement made me very happy!! And the price has been reduced on the designs. You can't go wrong with this product!!

    • A Cricut on Steriods

Only 2 drawbacks - only cuts up to 8 1/2 x 11 and doesn't weld words automatically. Great software screen you download from the website. Many images available to purchase and download as well as the themed software packs which give you the option to print cutout images with your printer, then cut them out with the Silhouette - I have Jingle and Postcard. The Silhouette images are of the Quickutz style which is great because you can resize them instead of being limited to 1 die shape size. I have both the Silhouette and the Cricut Expression...I use them both as I like both company's images. The Silhouette is not quite as user friendly as the Cricut, but it is quite easy to use if you are able to read and understand the instructions, there are so many things you can do integrating paint and Adobe through MS Word. I love my Silhouette!

    • All the benefits, right out of the box

I saw the other major brand and thought, "cool." I tried the the larger size of the major brand and thought, "I want one!" I heard about the Silhouette and shouted, "No cartridges?! No cartridge linking system? No extra carrying cases needed?" I saw it in action and thought, "Amazing!...but the cost."

Then I did the math. Even at full cost, the Silhouette outdoes the Cricut. Yes, you need a computer attached. (Hello, laptop!) Yes, you have to read directions before you go. (I highly reccommend you google Sihouette tutorials...there are amazing directions out there to get the most out of this!) Once you download the software and do some practice, you'll have those titles and designs done faster than you can say "Silhouette can do it better." I made a drawstring bag for my Silhouette and carefully pack it for every crop!

    • Love my Silhouette

I had been looking for a long time before I decided to take the digital die cutting trip. And I tried out many. After comparing cuts on like paper on different machines, the silhouette came out the winner. It also wins because with one click I can create my own shapes to cut. Silhouette has reduced the price of their supplies, so this makes the machine even more user friendly. Silhouette has new software for letter welding and silhouettes, so those are no longer issues. The new machine takes a memory card. And I found the software almost intuitive to use. For me, it's a dream come true.

    • One of my favorite tools

I do love my Silhouette - I love being able to buy only the images I want instead of expensive cartridges with images I know I'll never use.
I love being able to use any font that I can find.
Yes, replacement mats are a bit pricey - but I use my store coupons and get them at a better price.
It would be nice to be able to use 12 x 12 papers - but honestly, I've never needed to.
I hope they've revised the written instructions that come with the set-up packaging - I called the company for help once and wow - talk about customer service!

    • sizzix eclips-v-silhouette

I just purchased my sizzix eclips but now that I am looking more into the silhouette, I have fallen in love with it. Does anyone have any pros or cons they would like to share about either machine.

      Silhouette

I LOVE this cutter! I've only done a few cuts on it to date, but am anxious to get some of the vinyl so I can do some like that, too!

      • I was able to use the blades for the current machines with the original Quikcutz version. (until my machine wore out!)
You will remove the blade and blade holder and use the new all-in-one.
