I got this for Christmas and within 10 minutes of opening the box, I had my first title cut. It was easy to set up and easy to figure out. I haven't done a lot of layouts with it yet, but I'm loving the fonts for titling on those layouts. I haven't bought earlier versions of this as I didn't want to get sucked into buying all those cartridges. I wanted to be able to some of my own designs and not be restricted to only those images available on cartridges. Scrapbooking is a very individualized craft and I didn't want to be just another cut out.
The forum on the Silhouette web site is helpful and I've picked up a few tricks, and I admit I have a lot to learn.
I did order extra blades. It will be interesting to see how long the blades last. It is lightweight and easy to handle. It needs to be placed so the paper slides easily in and out both the front and back of the machine so it needs a clear surface, but it is easy to unplug and put away and take out again when needed. I know that I won't be putting mine away any time soon. I'll let you know again what I think in 6 months or so.

Considering when i started scrapbooking, all of my lettering was painstakingly hand-cut with an exacto knife, this machine is unbelievable! I'm not a huge fan of all the cartridges, shapes, and gizmos that go along with some of the other machines. My biggest interest was cutting fonts in various sizes, and this machine does it perfectly. I still need to try out all the different media (like vinyl, transfer paper, etc), but for cardstock and regular paper, it's a dream.
It's low-profile, lightweight, the software is fairly self-explanatory, and I love that it doesn't require a bunch of space to use. So far so good... (1 week of heavy use)...
I like my Silhouette SD. I like it even better since they now have their own software (vs Robo Master) The only drawback I have is the cutting mats lose it's stickiness after about the tenth use. I just use tape to keep my paper in place. What sold me on this product is the fact I can download any font off the internet for free and it will recognize it. You can get yearly subscriptions and download tons of images every month. They recently added a feature that you can pick out a shape of digital die cut you want then type a word or phrase and form it to that shape. There are many bloggers out there who give tutorials on their projects. So many cool things you can do! I bought my machine almost 2 years ago and use it all the time. There is no time limit to the support you get from the company either. If the line is busy, you can leave your name and number and they will call you back if you need help. Awesome customer support!
