It is solid but real light weight. I had another that I bought on Amazon (a brand name) and it was taring my cardstock. Not this one. It cut it perfectly
UPDATE 7/3/22: I wanted to update this review because I think this is important for cardmakers....
I HATE ONE BIG THING ABOUT THIS CUTTER
That it only goes to 4 3/4 at the top ruler. I didn't care that it wasn't a 12" long one cause most of my 12x12 paper is cut in half on a guillotine cutter I have. But when you are cutting 8.5x11 and you need a card to be 4.25x5.5 not gonna happen on this cutter unless you guess how far it hangs off the cutter. For this, which is a biggie to me... I don't like this cutter. But, I do use it to trim. It is still a clean, sharp, nice cutter.
For the measurement issue, I am removing one star.
I like the design of this guillotine paper trimmer and am looking forward to using it. I hope that it will cut as squarely as my first trimmer. I have the Tim Holtz, same-size trimmer I've been using for several years, now, but is not doing as well as when it was new.
I'm happy with this purchase, so far.

I am not happy with this trimmer. 😏 While ir has a comfortable handle, nowhere in the description does it say 4 5" cutting width! It states cuts up to 8 5" leading me to believe I could cut 8 5"width not length. This trimmer sits on my shelf used only for trimming scraps of paper. You really should give the length AND width of this trimmer in the description. I wish I had never bought it. My old trimmer at least cut 6 5 ".
I bought the smaller trimmer and discovered I needed a slightly larger one. This is perfect!
I received this as a gift from my kids. I love the size and the clean cuts.
