This could be an excellent tool it the nibs were metal. Being plastic, the sharp points wear down after one or two uses. Since a fair amount of pressure is needed to get the plastic spikes through the paper I don't suspect this tool will last long. I would return except by the time I pay postage I will be out most of my purchase price and not have anything to show for it. It would also help if there were some kind of instructions. Duh! The 3 stars are me just being nice.
As I am trying this out right now, I am wishing that it included a 12 x 12 mat. Since it doesn't come with instructions on how to use it, I popped over to wermakers.com to see how to use it. They don't even have this kit on their website. They have the stitch roller but this is a remake of the original that was made several years ago. I had to go on YouTube and came across a Video from HSN on how to use it including how to change the piercing heads.
I tried it on paper- simple white 65 lb cardstock. I definitely need a ruler to pierce a straight line so wishing it came with that too. I was eager to try the circle piercing head and initial pass was ok but will need to practice with this and apply constant pressure when rolling to ensure all the holes are truly pierced through the paper.
I don't see myself using this as much as I thought I would. Glad I got this on a sale. Wishing We R invested more video content on this.
I like this kit but when making holes in cardstock the holes are not big enough for the needle to go thru. Careful going back over the holes, if you go off track, it's done! Nice idea but.....!
This is such a fun tool & works surprisingly well even on heavy cardstock. It saves loads of time from the usual tedious chore of punching each sewing hole individually and also keeps me from dulling my needles. I purchased this on a whim on sale thinking that I might never use it, but now I keep this tool in easy reach and use it constantly. The foam mat that comes with it isn't self-healing, so I don't know how long that will last, but replacement foam is easy to find at the hobby store. Highly recommend, especially if you can grab it on sale!
I have been wanting to stitch on cards. Withour=t a sewing machine or accurate hand stitching this provides a perfect template.
This tool needs metal nibs and not plastic ones to be effective. It does not penetrate any sort of card stock unless you had very thin paper. The holes are also hard to see and it is easy to go off kilter. I do, however, use it more than I thought as I like the general concept and to make it work, I go behind and repunch the holes with an awl on both sides to fit with the big needle. I like the colors of threads it comes with and it’s embroidery floss so you can use any color and buy it in any craft store if you wanted a different color than what is provided. The mat does not heal and using it with an awl after causes pretty big dents, but I’m not too concerned.
Although I have a sewing machine the last thing I want to do when I’m working on a tag, card or page for a mini book is to stop and go set it up just to sew a few edges. So far, this tool has worked pretty well for me and even if my “stitching “ comes out a little crooked, the same thing happens with my sewing machine! It also comes with some pastel colored thread but I have lots of embroidery and decorative threads that I have used instead.
I love this concept for paper crafters of all kinds. I do enjoy the sewing look, but don’t care to get my sewing machine out. The wear and tear on my expensive sewing machine is something I’m not willing to compromise, so this Sew Easy Kit fits the bill for that look. Thank You We R Makers!
This is a fun product if you want to add a simple stitch to a card project. For detailed stitching you'll want to use your sewing machine. Wish it had a guide or ruler to help make a straight stitch. I just used my own ruler and it was fine. I made a cute 4th of July card and used a red/white twine to stitch down the side. It turned out super cute. I wanted to add a photo but there's no option to 'Add a project'.
The roller works great. It makes nice holes for the needle and thread. The thread however is terrible. It separates and balls up behind a hole. I will be able to use this tool but not with the thread that comes with it.
