Is anyone else sorting stash now that we're stuck indoors?

  • Ppilgrim
I purged stash in January, but now I feel like I should take stock of what's left, and maybe figure out what I'm going to do with some of it. I stopped subscribing to a pocket-page kit club last month and was concerned that I wouldn't have enough cards & embellies to get me through to the end of 2020. It's a good thing I checked, as I've enough stuff to get me through to the autumn of 2121. eyeroll emoji

I did a reset in Dec/January but need to work on the closet space. I'm still working f/t so other than weekends/evenings not a whole lot of time. I also broke out my labeler to re-label stuff... maybe this weekend.
I have papers and a few other items to purge, but not a whole lot at this point. There was a funny saying going around FB where in 2019 the DH says,
"Do you really need more scrap supplies? You have enough to get you through the end of time!" and the Wife in 2020 says, "Who's crazy now?"
  • LauralsAttic
I did all that from Oct.2019 thru January. It was amazing to find things I had forgotten about that just got buried. I purged a lot of stuff that I knew I would not use and it freed up a whole lot of space(made a goody box for swaps with some of it) but it also made me realize that my stash is very low! Especially on lace! I use it as much as pp. But I vowed to not shop in 2020 so my projects are based around what I have. I did however buy a lot of organizational stuff for myself at Christmas. Now I know what I have and where I have it at. I went with a visual concept because the stuff I purged or lost I could not see. So everything I own for scrapbooking is on 2 book cases in clear containers, 1 mixed media TH cart for mm, tools, etc. , and 1 plastic clear container I keep under my table with pps. I also bought lg 2 gallon bags so pp collections and/or brands can go in each and labeled for easy access in container, and 1 old easter basket I keep on table to hold flowers so they do not get smashed. That is my 2 cent to your question Peggy for the day LOL!
  • Ppilgrim
I'm grateful for your two cents, Laura, because I'm always looking for good storage and organizational ideas. I try to upcycle stuff from around the house for storage, or purchase items at garage sales and thrift stores, but I might have to hit WallyWorld next week and find some little bins for flowers and other delicate items. I'm sorry to hear that you're running out of lace because you're the goddess of lace and I love looking at your gorgeous lacy projects.
  • Ppilgrim
"Now who's crazy?" indeed! I've been looking around the 'net for cool ideas to both keep me out of trouble (as in out of the on-line stores) and, every once in a while, I come across a familiar-looking project. When I do, I check my Inspiration File to see if I've already saved an image of it and -- sure enough -- there it is. Some of those ideas have been sitting in that file for a decade and the products they inspired me to purchase are usually still in my stash.

A lady on Facebook Marketplace was looking for free scrapbook supplies so for two weeks I went digging into all of my stashes. I hooked this girl up and the back of my car is ready for her again. She hasn't responded with my last two attempts to catch up with her so looking like my scrapbook retreat will get the next haul.

Like a lot of others in this thread I had recently done a thorough cleaning so it's not necessary now that we are stuck indoors.
Though, truthfully I'm not completely stuck indoors because, like Gluemore Girl, I'm still able to go to work.

    Deborah:

So, what you're saying is that you're storing the excess product in the trunk of your vehicle. rofl emoji

Yeah so if come across ANYONE, like ANYONE, who needs scrapbook stuff then I am their girl lol!!!

I also found someone who was just starting out and in need of scrapbook supplies who didn't have a big budget so last night I did a sticker purge after sorting out plenty of papers for her. Oh boy - I had so many stickers! It was very therapeutic to sort them out so now I know what I've got and have only kept what I'll use. I do think those things were breeding in my scrap room, mind you!
  • Groovy Deborah
I agree they do breed! I had so many and I also found that it was therapeutic for me. I am trying to get my house ready to sell, so as I go thru these things and find a home for it, it helps both of us. I am just hoping this girl is not taking things to turn around and sell it, but if she does then I helped someone in need ) emoji

Well with the girl who I'm in touch with - I was the one who contacted her and she even offered to buy stuff, but I don't mind sending her some goodies - I'm not about to charge her - she might not even like what I send. Someone sent stuff for me when I was starting out and it was really helpful!
  • Gluemore Girl
I really need to label my drawers of tools and bags and boxes of embellishments. I sorted embellishments by color and it works nicely when putting together a page kit or a LO but it would be really helpful if I didn't have to pull out several bags to get to the color I want, lol.

  • Ppilgrim
Every time I label my storage units, I end up moving a bunch of stuff and having to re-label 'em. This place will likely remain a "magical mystery tour" for a while 'cause I 'm too cheap to waste label tape. eyeroll emoji
  • Gluemore Girl
That's me! I have a full label maker loaded but need to get it all done before I commit!

I did a huge purge last year twice. Sent first purge to someone who makes cards and crafts with a group in a nursing home and the second one I had not intended but my sis asked for whatever I could give to a new free daycare where they live. The daycare was set up to help low income families be able to work and their whole check not go for daycare cost. Also for aftercare programs. So I probably purged a bit too much LOL because I went to look for a specific solid color of card stock and ended up having to go buy a few. But for those of you looking to unload, check your local area for something similar.

I still live with my parents so storage is a huge struggle for me. I'm going to put all my previous 12x12 scrapbooks in the attic soon hopefully to free up some space for my ever growing selection of washi tape and newly acquired stamps. I don't suppose any of you know the best way to store spiral bound scrapbooks? Google has been no help and the only boxes I can find are 12x12 which would be perfect if the binding didn't add another inch or so. I;m pretty sure I've read that they shouldn't be stacked on top of each other? I've currently got them in a cardboard box standing so the opening of the book faces down. Any ideas would be welcome, I'm pretty new to this and judging by the previous messages in the feed, I have a tiny collection in comparison to most people.

Check these storage boxes out. I think they might work for what you need. My mom has some for 12x12 albums which are larger than that with the covers and all.

I said I did not need to purge? I lied... I am purging again. B/c I share the room with DD when she comes home to visit I need to get a better handle on what goes where and free up some table space for myself but also have space to craft together when she is home.
After she left on Saturday, I started tearing the room apart.
I have 5 areas to work on: 1. the shelving unit with storage drawers in the closet (done); 2. the bookcase next to my work table (done); 3. my work table (hot mess); 4. the IKEA kallax (mostly done); 5. paper cart (needs some re-organizing).
I have a stack of paper and things that DD will use in her classroom and anything else will go to other scrappy friends.

Robboelr, sorry I don't know what might work for your spiral bound books. I know my friend uses banker's boxes for storing 12x12 paper. They are also cardboard, though. I'm picturing rectangular boxes lying on their side and stacked like book cases, that way you can store the albums as if they are on a bookshelf. Would that work?
