  • Hello All!
I am wondering a few things here and hope you all can help me out. How much this fabulous sounding invention weighs?
I have shoulder and wrist instability due to Ehler-Danlos Syndrome and am limited as to what I can carry. What are the handles like, the carry and the crank? What have you found to be the best way to store dies?

I'm new to embossing, but have purchased a few 5x7 embossing folders. I'm thinking of purchasing this machine. I've read the embossing instructions, but am a little confused. Doesn't the paper go inside the embossing folder? Do I need to cut my embossing folder ? The instructions say:

    Insert the base platform
Add your die cut or paper of choice to the top of the Cutting Plate
Place the embossing mat on the top of your die cut or paper
    Add embossing plate
Run through the machine by turning the handle

Thanks for any help.   By: User (13-Feb-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • The paper goes inside the embossing folder. Do not cut the embossing fold, it is supposed to stay attached. By: VickyLevy (15-Feb-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Embossing folders are different than the embossing mat. The instructions you mentioned are to turn your dies into embossing. If you use the mat instead of the die plate it will put an impression into the paper instead of cutting it. Another way to stretch your dies. Embossing folders hold the paper inside and should never be cut apart. Hope this helps. By: mzlikely (03-Jan-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • If your Platinum 6 handle requires lubrication, you can remedy this quickly
and easily. Place a small drop of household dish detergent between the
white and bronze parts of the handle and rotate the handle to distribute.
Alternately, you can remove and immerse the handle into clean water
with dish detergent. Do not use chemicals such as WD-40. By: Scrapbook.com (12-Jul-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • I have followed the instructions explicitly that were included with my spellbinders platinum 6 and have yet to successfully emboss a card with an embossing folder using your instructions. I put in the platform then the embossing folder with the card and then the plastic plate. That in itself just quickly runs through the machine without embossing because there's not enough pressure. I have to add 3 pieces of card stock to make it thicker. Is there something I am missing?   By: sanuhl (16-Jun-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I had to switch to my old trusty Sizzix machine to use 3d embossing folders. I broke a couple forcing the sandwich to go thru, the on-line store I bought them from were so incredibly nice that they replaced them for free. I tried every instruction, emailed for help, tried every sandwich that I found from every stamping guru and I never got it to work. My old machine is reliable and does work. By: amdirmeikis (13-Nov-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • I've been pretty successful using 3D and other embossing folders to work with my platinum 6 and the platinum spellbinder. Following the instructions of sandwiching does not work. I have tried using some of the embossing plates and play with the thickness to get the folders to work successfully. It's a trial and error but once you decide which embossing plate and die cutting plate works together, then you're in business. I'm not an expert nor am I a beginner. I just tried different things to see if it will work. By: Blessed4me (12-May-23) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

I'm also having an issue where the screw in my handle keeps coming undone. My machine is about 4 months old. Any thoughts on how to prevent this from happening?   By: Jadior (15-Sep-24) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Hello, it is the Altenew Zero Waste 3D cover plate. I'll check with Spellbinder, like you suggested. Maybe the metal shim will work, so I'll have to purchase one. The plastic shim is not enough. By: Jadior (18-Sep-24) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Hi, can you tell me which cover die you are referring to and which problem you are having? I have found that simply using the recommended sandwich for die cutting works fine for my cover plates unless they are more intricate. In which case I will add the metal shim to get those pesky little pieces out. As for the screw, I’ve not experienced that problem. Perhaps you should contact Spellbinders directly. • I’m finding the Stampin Up dies are too thick and make it very difficult to turn the crank. Even a set of spellbinders dies, Christmas Blooms were difficult to use. I used several different sandwich types, including the one for when using the Platinum 6’s cutting plate on top, the magic mat on bottom, it felt like I was forcing it through. With all the dies & embossing folders being a different thickness, it is very stressful figuring out how to make it go through smoothly. By: Carey G. The sandwich that comes with the new and improved machine has been redesigned and comes with different components than the original. The sandwich is a bit longer and the platform is just slightly thinner. The colors of the machine have been changed and the machine is white and silver rather than white and copper. • Hello, the new size of the platform and plates gives you more versatility in choices for die cutting and embossing. This also provides better compatibility with longer products such as slimline dies and embossing folders (sold separately) By: Scrapbook.com (29-Nov-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Yes, however depending on how long that slimline die is you may need longer plates. Not sure if Spellbinders has the longer plates but other brands do just make sure the plate can fit in the Spellinder's width. I know Sizzix has the longer plates (about 14 inches long) and I believe a few other brands. You will need to google or check youtube. Scrapbook.com (right here) has the cutting mat that would fit you just need one cutting plate to put on the top. I just purchased their Magic Mat (Scrapbook.com - Magic Mat - Extended - Cutting Pad for *Select Machines - 6 x 14.5). By: chinajo1 (28-Nov-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • What is the difference between the Platinum and the Platinum 6?   By: KarenSu (31-Mar-21) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • For those of you that are considering the bigger platinum machine, be aware that (at least this is my experience) it is VERY DIFFICULT to run through any paper and dies, I can barely turn the handle. Embossing folders have been a no go for me. I contacted Spellbinders for help and the best they could offer was to run through the dies on the outside edges of the plates. Well, it didn’t work because the middle didn’t cut. I contacted them again for help and was told that I could have it checked by returning it to them AT MY EXPENSE! Now, I live in Canada, and to mail this back to them is very expensive. After spending $280.00 cad $ I surely expected a machine I could use. I’m very disappointed! By: debbie@shaw (11-Sep-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • The difference is the size of the machine and the opening. The Platinum has plates that measure 8.5" x 12.25" and the Platinum 6 has plates that measure approximately 6.125" x 8.75". We hope this helps! By: Scrapbook.com (01-Apr-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • I tried to use 3D embossing folders with this machine but I was not able to do so. I contacted Spellbinders in October of 2020 via email after learning they might have a 3-D embossing plate to work with these type of embossing folders. They responded back letting me know the 3D embossing plate is a discontinued item. They mentioned at the time they were currently working on a video on how to stack your sandwich using 3D embossing folders. They also mentioned that they would post a video about it on their YouTube channel. I hope this was helpful! By: HarshGurl (06-Jan-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Other foil machines do not use the same heat activated method and you cannot put dies through them. These would include the Minc type machines. Their foils won’t work. Place the other plate on top of that and then roll through. Sometimes you have to put a little muscle into it. It feels like it won't go through, but then it does. Try moving your die to the middle of the base and see if that helps. I get more resistance when the dies are bigger, but they still go through. I hope this helps! • Die cutting machines are very easy to use. There are always directions either in booklet form or right on the base platform. It is always a good idea to keep one of your cutting plates as a DO NOT CUT plate so that the sandwich rolls through nice and smooth. There are many YouTubes online showing how to use the different manual machines and also the electronic machines. I can't live without my die cutting machines now...they are an essential tool to my card making. An exceptional site for using the Spellbinders Platinum 6 and the Sizzix BigShot is scrapbookingmadesimple.com. Stacey has videos that are actual classes and she gears them towards total beginners right up to advanced crafters. You might want to check her out. Hope this helps. Cheers! • I recently purchased Spellbinders die called What's the Point. Claims on the package that it is compatible with the Platinum Machine. Does that include the Platinum 6? The die is too big for my existing machine (Cuttlebug).   By: killerbee004 (30-Jun-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Any die that did not fit my Cuttlebug has fit into my Platinum 6. I measured width. It is six inches wide. Hope this can help you. By: Jasperbutsie (04-Jul-17) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
