I have some ink pad storage but had all my distress ink pads in a drawer...and I love my distress inks so I had to remedy the drawer situation. I researched quite a few different storage ideas but I needed storage for the ink pads and reinkers so it came down to economy of space for me. This thing is the best bang for the buck!
It is quite large...it was hard for me to get perspective on the size, and once it is put together it is heavy so it won't be my go to for traveling. But I have mini inks for that!
What I can say...it is awesome for my needs! Just remember if you are going to store smaller inks pads, buy two sets of inserts...I didn't realize you needed two sets. Put the whole thing together anyway, ordered the second set which arrived today and put them in place.
I recently purchased this item and received it. It was very easy to put together and required minimal know how and tools. The lazy susan on the bottom of the ink pad holder is smooth although a bit noisy. This item holds my Stampin Up ink pads very nicely. The strip of plastic that you lock into place for travel is a little tricky and stiff, however, if done properly you get a snug fit and your inks will not fall out (even if trilling in a circle holding the ink holder).
I bought this because it was cheaper than buying the two 24-units individually- I don't use the swivel, I just have them sitting side by side on my desk. However, the swivel is really sturdy/quality should you want to use it. I don't know how much I would "travel" with this thing, other than perhaps from one room of the house to another, it seems like the inks could fall out if jostled too much. That said, all my inks fit (I have all manner of hobby-lobby-sold inks: versa, distress, staz-on, etc), and the sold-separate inserts are an absolute must for the distress inks - makes them fit perfectly. My only complaint is that it's boring black plastic, and I prefer natural materials. I'll have to spice it up, I think!
This unit is durable, compact and easy to assemble. The swivel base is smooth and made out of thicker gauged metal as compared to some others I've looked at. The assembly instructions aren't great, but they're adequate. If you buy the inserts (you will want to if you have Distress ink pads or small ones like those) just know that the inserts should be installed prior to putting the PortaInk together - the instructions don't mention that. I also like that should my needs change and I decide I'd rather have wall-mounted storage, I can just take this apart and hang it up.
I already own one of these along with the 2 marker buddies attached to the sides for several years. It has never quit! Everything is all in one place- ink refills, pads, and markers at the turn of your hand. A great space saver! I have acquired more ink pads and needed more storage so I didn't hesitate to purchase another. Went together very easily. I do not normally take this anywhere, but the pieces supplied can secure the unit quite well for travel, minus the ink refills.
What they do not tell you is that in order to use it with any shape ink pad, you have to buy additional inserts because the slots are way too deep and the ink pads fall through to the back and are nearly impossible to get out without tilting the whole thing. It would have been more honest if they sold the 48 adapters as part of the kit. The wording led me to believe that this was complete to go as is. I got the extra side pieces for pens and would not suggest those. If it is called, "The Best Craft Organizer", it should be complete and not need additional inserts which are sold in sets of 24 and this needs 48, so it is an extra $20 above.
I was happily surprised at how quickly the box arrived. Though it came with instructions on how to put it together, I never used it. I am happy that "Close to my Heart" stamp pads fit in there easily and I still have room to secure the pad as I take from my house to a crop without having to worry about losing anything. The organizer rotates easily, just have small kids stay away from the very bottom, as the spinner has very pointy corners. It is nice to have the strap at the top to carry it from one place to another. The space on top is also perfect for my Sickles bottles as well. I know I will get a lot of use from this organizer and I love that I can easily see what I am looking for without having to dig in a box or drawer.
I bought my first Portaink Storage 5 years ago. It has been one of my best purchases. All of my Stampin Up Ink pads, matching ink refills and markers fit nice and neat in it. As well as the New Blendability alcohol markers. I love it so much that I had to buy a second one to hold more ink pad colors!!! I would highly recommend this. The twirling feature is the best, so you can easily locate a specific color.
I bought two of these for all my Tim Holtz Distress Inks and the other random ink pads I have. They work GREAT! One thing to remember is that you have to buy the inserts for the Distress Pads. This organizer fits most brands of stamp pads, except the really thick ones. One thing I also found was with the Distress Inks, there is room left over one each side of the pad - enough room to stick the corresponding Distress Marker!!!! The cap is pretty much the only thing that sticks out, so not a huge deal for me. I have two on a shelf next to each other, and they have plenty of room to rotate, even with the pens! These are exactly what I was looking for!
I love that this organizer allowed me to free up drawer space as it sits atop my desk! For reference, my desktop measures 60.5" x 29" but I think it'd still fit comfortably on a smaller desktop size. It maybe a bit cramped on anything 36" or smaller.
Either way I believe every crafter should find a place for it as its so useful! I absolutely love having my ink colors in front of me as opposed to stuck in a drawer! I put Memento inks, Versamark (+Versafine), & Stayzon inks to fill up this one- all sitting so I can see the short side of the pads. Tho you can still see the colored tops a bit, I use sticker paper to stamp colors on the sides of each pad to help with identifying each color. I am planning to get one more for my distress inks as I did buy the add one for shorter pads and they work great with the distress inks.
The top is also awesome as I can fit more supplies!! I put some reinkers and spray inks on top. I highly recommend this organizer for every crafter!!!
