As I stated in my title, this product - at least for me - had a rather steep learning curve. Instructions were vague. After an extensive search, I found one particular video on YouTube which was somewhat helpful. The crucial requirement to make this product effective is to lay the die down with the cutting side away from the intended surface. No one bothers to instruct beginners to do this. After much trial-and-error to determine which of my dies would work with this product, the ones that worked produced only a subtle effect. In the end, I would surmise that this product is useful only for intermediate to expert papercrafters. I believe occasional papercrafters should pass on it, that it's not worth the trouble.

I have seen where people say you have to use the silicone pad to emboss with dies. But they all say something different about what the second pad should be. I am new to card making so I am not sure exactly what to by with the silicone pad. Can someone tell me what I need to buy so I can go ahead and place my order?
This is the set you need to emboss. You don't need it if you are only cutting or are only using an embossing folder. This set is for embossing with does that have the capability to emboss. And this set is for the Big Shot, Vintaj/Big Kick machines etcetera, any that fit the dies if that side.

I have the old Big Shot (the one where you have to pull the handle down). Will these work in that one? I tried using embossing folders in it yesterday and there was a huge gap.

Unfortunately, the products made for the Original Sizzix machine are no longer manufactured. To our knowledge, this product does not work with that machine either.
