It does cut a straight line and does cut several pieces of paper at once. Handy when cutting mats.
Pretty good but could still use some improvements.
Mainly it's still got a gap without measurement lines at the transition spot.
Still a little bit hard to see your cut line, but better than some.
The height from the main board to the fold out arms is so big that it's hard to tell if you have your paper lined up. You can't lay your paper flat against the ruler. If you move your head a little instead of being directly over the paper edge, you can change the measurement accuracy.
The fact that the clear plastic guard does not lift up bugs me a lot.
Would be even better if either the whole cutting arm lifted up or the blade rotated up so that you don't have to keep moving the blade out of the way to place a piece of paper. You can't slide a piece of paper in without moving the blade all the way up or down out of the way.
It is light weight enough to travel with and seems sturdy.
I cut chipboard and paper today for a folio. I had several sheets to cut at 6.5 inches and I couldn’t do it on this cutter. There is a skip in the measuring tape. Unfortunately the cutter is curved there, so you can’t get an accurate measurement to even write anything in. If anyone has a workaround I’d like to hear it. Edit: after spending some time with this trimmer, its ability to cut chipboard almost outweighs the lack of accurate measurements. I do enjoy using it. It’s almost perfect, but the one flaw is a big one for me.
Darn those videos! I was sure I needed this new TH trimmer. It looked so promising. Yes, it’s pricey but Scrapbook.com had the best price. I own every trimmer under the sun. I took the plunge. I keep getting jagged cuts and my card bases are always a little off one scored and folded. Maybe there is a learning curve to this trimmer and I will go back to Tim’s videos and review. As of now, I keep pulling out my old Fiskars wire/blade trimmer. Can’t believe I paid this much for a trimmer I don’t use. Not happy!
Please Be Sure to read instructions on the back of the box!!! I thought it wasn’t cutting well………User Error!! Now it cuts like Butter!
I had high expectations, given alll the buzz this trimmer has received, and so I was surprised and concerned when my first few cuts through cardstock resulted in torn, rather than smoothly cut, edges. Watched the TH video and realized I was pushing down on the carriage and the correct technique is to lightly press the carriage to the left so that the blade rolls against the edge of the channel. Tried that and got perfect cuts. Excited to finally have something that can cut everything I use!
Definitely a learning curve to use this successfully. So far I am not happy with how it cuts heat resistant acetate.
I’m usually quite pleased with all of my Tim Holtz products and then didn’t disappoint. The one thing I would say is practice cutting. I watched Tim’s demonstration video. This is a precision cutter like no other and if you just try to slide the cutter down the guide you will get an undesirable result. Follow Tim’s exact recommendation and it will work. I will say that as Tim stated the heavier chipboards for making mini albums are not what this is designed for. Love this cutter for sure. It will definitely stay out for quick access.
I have so many paper cutters for 12x12 but this one is my so good. It is light so that is a big help to have it portable. I love that it has the dotted markings at 4.25 and 5.5. It glides like butter and was able to cut 3 sheets of his water color paper with ease.
I was not happy with my current trimmer and was looking for something else. I saw this. After hearing. different reviews of top card makers. I decided to try it, and can tell you that I am thrilled with it. It gives a crisp cut, and is easy to use. The extension works great to fit 12x12" paper. The markings are very clear. The rotary cutter moves smoothly. I am thrilled with it, and look forward to using it for a long time.
Tim Holtz products are always high quality and this trimmer is slick! Cuts beautifully various thicknesses and I like the 1/4" grid. It is lightweight too! I haven't tried cutting fabric, leather, or aluminum, but it cuts the grunge paper and cereal boxes. You won't be disappointed!
