  • Can I emboss with it and if do I need to buy special accessories   By: Lindamw2 (22-Mar-24) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello and thank you for your question. Use this machine with thousands of thin metal dies (such as Sizzix Thinlit and Sizzix Framelit) and steel rule Sizzix dies, as well as a huge selection of Sizzix embossing folders. The Sizzix Big Shot cuts and embosses many different materials, such as paper, vellum, fabric, chipboard and cork to make your creative vision a reality.

The Big Shot Machine and accessories will also work with other brand dies and embossing tools, so this machine opens a world of possibilities! In order to ensure compatibility, make sure to check machine and accessory requirements. The diagrams on the included Extended Multi-Purpose Platform offer easy guidelines about how to make the perfect Sizzix sandwich or refer to the Sizzix Sandwich Booklet for reference. • My Big Shot is 7 years old. It never worked smoothly, needing several passes to complete the die cut or the embossing folder. Today, while cutting 2 layers of paper, I heard a very loud cracking sound, and then nothing worked. When I turn the handle, there is a clicking and jumping. I watched a you tube video, took it apart, everything seemed intact, put it back together, nothing!
Is there anything I can do, or is this machine finished?   By: DianeSmooke (29-Jun-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Mine is many years old and a while ago mine made some loud noise and wouldn’t turn. I called sizzix and they told me to take it apart. Hubby oiled it up and put it back together. Sizzix does sell replacement parts. Call them. By: B2Hearts (01-Jul-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • It sounds like it should've been returned from the start. I bought one last year (was previously using a Cuttlebug). Mine has worked smoothly from the beginning but I do have to make 2 passes over my dies when once was always enough on my Cuttlebug. I bought the Big Shot for the express purpose of cutting thicker laminated materials. At this point, buy a new machine! Do some research and watch YouTube videos of the different embossing/cutting machines available and splurge. Sorry you had this problem but being 7 yrs old isn't bad and stores won't help you with it now. By: ayla1958 (01-Jul-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Does it cut through cardstock uesing the Spellbinders Designer Series with the intricate patterns?   By: kwires (23-Jan-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • I have cut intricate dies, from different companies, including lots of Sizzix dies. I don't have any Spellbinders Designer Series yet. You would need to buy the Sizzix Precision Base Plate, separate from the Big Shot machine, and you should have no problems cutting through normal cardstock or glitter card stock with intricate dies and thinlets. I use mine all the time, have had no problems with it. The Big shot cuts almost anything including the older thick Sizzix dies. You can also buy the magnetic platform which will help your dies to stay in place. This is my 2nd Big Shot machine, and I stuck with it because of the vast amount of different sizes of dies and materials you can use with it. Hope this helps you out. • I am needing a machine to cut or punch letters. Which would be the better buy a Big Shot or the letter punch that is on sale for $22.99   By: maryolder (25-Aug-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
This question is about a related product.
    • The Sizzix Big Shot Machine might be more expensive to start but you can expand your collection in the future with other font styles and sizes as you create more projects. A die cutting machine has so many more possibilities to make cards, boxes, party favors, and more. The letter punch will be less expensive for sure and will cut your letters nicely. The drawback is that the letter punch isn't expandable. You will only every be able to cut one font in that same style for the life of the punch. If you think you will be wanting other font styles and sizes in the future, you might consider the Big Shot machine instead of the letter punch. I hope that helps make your decision easier. The dies that come in this bundle, however, are not going to work well to cut fabric since they are thin metal dies. They work great on paper but not on fabric. • Will the Big Shot cut leather and all felt.   By: leehouse (12-Jul-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Some wafer thin dies may cut through thin felt. However, if you want to cut leather, chipboard or other thicker materials you will need to purchase the steel ruled dies. This machine accepts both types of dies and you will have to adjust the plates sandwich accordingly. Also, leather may be somewhat finicky because it all depends on the type of material the leather is backed up with. Some leather materials are back up with a soft fuzzy material and that would cut using a steel ruled die, some leather is backed up with a normally white material with threads going in all directions in order to provide strength to the leather and those are sometimes finicky. when it comes to the latter type of leather you are not going to know unless you get a sample and test it. • Does this Sizzix Big Shot also emboss? Can I use any kind of embossing folders, like those made by Darice?   By: mikaylasonoma (26-Jun-17) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Sizzix Big Shot does an amazing emboss on any brand of embossing folder that I have ordered here in the USA. I do not always have success with folders that come free with magazines. Several of those are too thick to run thru. By: birdwatchr3 (21-Mar-18) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
