Here are some of the reasons why this starter kit is so AWESOME:
Included are dies, stamps and an embossing folder, so you can start your creating right away
Perfect for your on-the-go crafting, crops or classes
It’s affordable. Create cards, design tags and more without spending a lot of money

It's a great gift idea as it has everything you need to get started (minus cardstock)

If you aren't sure if die cutting is "for you," this is an affordable way to learn and find out!

You’ll be excited to get your hands on this space saver that will easily adhere to your workspace when you lock the lever into place. Use thin dies (Triplits, Thinlits, and Framelits) that measure from 2 1/2” wide to 4 1/2” long/lengthwise and smaller. The machine easily cuts through a single sheet of paper, vellum or lightweight cardstock.

How to use the Tim Holtz Sidekick for die cutting:

  • Place the machine on a solid surface, such as a desk or counter top
  • Secure suction cup by locking lever into place (see video for visuals)
  • Choose a piece of cardstock or other material to cut
  • Place selected cardstock on top of the cutting pad
  • Place the die on top of the cardstock, cutting side down
  • Place the remaining cutting pad on top of the die
  • Insert the “sandwich” into the Sidekick machine
  • Crank the handle, rolling the “sandwich” through the machine
  • Remove your finished die cut on the other side!

How to use the Sidekick for embossing:

  • Choose a cut out shape or embossing folder
  • Place your cardstock or other material into the embossing folder
  • Place embossing pad and cutting pad on either side of the embossing folder
  • Run “sandwich” through the machine
  • Remove your embossed material on the other side!

Tip: Do not overload the machine to prevent from getting jammed. Regularly use both sides of your plates to prevent warping (though warping of plates over time is normal and expected)

Warranty: Three-year limited warranty. This warranty covers any manufacturing defects in your authentic Sizzix Sidekick Die Cutting Machine when you purchase the product from an Authorized Sizzix Retailer.

What our customers are saying about the Tim Holtz Sidekick Starter Kit:

“Even though I already own a Vagabond I ordered this Sidekick because I thought it was cute and it might come in handy. When it arrived and I unpacked it I thought it might be little more then a toy. Not so! This little thing is a workhorse! I've been using it to cut out all the little tiny pieces needed for the snow globe Christmas cards I'm making for my six grandkids. I've also used it to cut out many of my other small dies. This little thing cuts like a champ. I love it!!!!!” – NonnaEVG

“This is such a great companion to the bigger machines! It's lightweight, travels well to crops and arty gatherings and matches the bigshot, plus and emboss machines. I had the original way back in the day and was so excited to see the updated version and to be able to get the accessories again. Mine sits right on my worktable so I can grab it for a quick use.” – juliajae

“This product is the perfect addition to my die cutting supplies in my craft room! I love how portable it is and how easy it is to use. All of the extras that come with it are classic and will be used over and over again.” – Joanie R

    Cute Little Workhorse

Like all Sizzix die cutters, this does a nice job. It works only with small dies (the platform is 4.5" x 2.5"), but the cuts are clean and crisp. The bundle includes a few dies and stamps as well as some materials to get you started.
However, I've given it three stars out of four because contrary to the product description, the suction feature does not work. I've tried a variety of surfaces and it slides all over the place.

    Lasted 3 years

I love this thing. I use it ALL the time. I've always bought the proper plates and I never put anything too big thru it. Tonight I was using it and the hand (plastic) literally SHREDDED off the steel piece that turned. I now have a sentiment die stuck in the machine. I'm so sad. I guess $15 a year was worth it, I just thought it'd last longer than 3 years.

    Instant Love!

How did I live without this? It is so small, lightweight, and handy to leave on my work table. I love it for cutting with small dies, especially sentiments. It only takes seconds. It will never replace my large die cutting machine which is needed for larger dies, but on the other hand, nothing will replace this either. I also like that it came in a package with accessories. Highly recommend. I also appreciate the prompt shipping from Scrapbook.com

    Sizzix Side Kick

This is a great tool for the paper crafter. It's a great size to cut small dies and embossing folders. Along with larger dies and embossing folders, I die-cut many smaller images and words, this is perfect for this. I keep it on my craft table for quick use. I'm thinking about getting another one to put in my to go crafting bag.

    Love my Sidekick!!!

I use my Big Shot a lot - I just love dies. I tend to avoid using the smaller dies as I have to get up to walk across the room to use the Big Shot (the height of laziness?). I've put the Sidekick right in front of me on my work table and I've used it countless times since it arrived a few days ago. Great little tool. The suction bottom works perfectly so no need to exert a lot of pressure to hold down the machine.

    Great little machine

I love the ease of using this little critter as opposed to having to drag out my big Sizzix when I only need to cut a little item out. I recommend adding this little machine to your crafting room.

    Great addition of embossing

I had the previous red sidekick, which broke. Love that this cuts and embosses. I used the dies that came with this sidekick - the pieces were cleanly cut and the embossed heart was just perfect. My other thinlets dies I have works in this.

Questions & Answers
  • LOVE my Tim Holtz Sidekick, but what I dont love is that 1 of my plates is already cracked. :(
And good luck finding the correct color replacements!!!   By: madewithlovebynlo (06-Apr-18) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Since I saw these comments, I ordered an extra set of cutting pads (link below) with the machine bundle! With my larger Sizzix machines, I always keep one pad straight and unmarked by keeping it away from the cutting side of the dies. That way, I just have one pad that takes the brunt of the damage while the other provides a stable surface for running through the machine. Theoretically, that should give you more mileage out of a replacement set of cutting pads!

    • I was thrilled when I receive my sidekick! However, after approximately 20 - 25 passes with various thinlets one of the plates is warped and even though the handle cranks nothing passes through the machine. It was wonderful while it lasted. • I just received my little Sidekick starter kit and it's so cute! I am new to die cutting and wondered whether it's normal to hear a cracking sound as you feed the plates and dies through the machine? It was startling the first time I used it. I also noticed that the bottom plate is marked with the shape of the die after feeding it through. I guess this is why replacement plates are available for purchase! Just hope it doesn't crack completely.   By: OntarioSue (19-Mar-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Yes, the cracking sound and the marking of the plates are both completely normal. The plates are considered a "consumable" item and will need to be replaced eventually. Hope this helps! • I'm new here.
I never had a cutting machine.
How do I know which dies and emboss folder fit this machine?   By: ma_cenzi (05-Jul-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • The Sidekick machine can be used with wafer-thin dies and embossing folders up to 2 1/2” wide. By: jmanko (14-Dec-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Congratulations! You will find your new Sidekick to be quite useful for lots of projects. You can use any die or embossing folder that will fit through the opening as long as you have the cutting pads to make your layers a snug fit through the machine. The nice thing about the manual machines is that they are not brand-specific nor do you need to use made-for-sidekick folders and dies. Having said that, you can be sure of getting the correct size if you see "sidekick" in the product description. Have fun! By: Marianna_ (06-Jul-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • My original red Sidekick was plastic...never came across a metal one. It lasted nearly 10 years with a lot of use. When it finally fell apart, I bought the Tim Holtz Sidekick....I find his products very high quality. In my opinion, this newer model is stronger and sturdier that the original. It may be plastic, but it's a workhorse! By: kitty347 (12-Dec-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
