Compatibility:

  • This machine is compatible with most standard dies (including Thinlits, Framelits, and more), standard and 3D embossing folders, and steel-rule dies (all products sold separately) from a variety of manufacturers.
  • This machine is also compatible with the Glimmer Hot Foil System (sold separately).

How To Set Up Your New Platinum SIX Black Machine:

  • Find a workspace to use your machine and ensure that it is a clean, flat, dry, and smooth surface.
  • Place the machine front facing so the metal post is to the right side of the machine (the metal post has one flat side). Position the turning handle arm on the metal post, making sure to match the flat side on the post to the flat side ion the turning handle arm opening.
  • Slide the washer into the screw and place both inside the opening at the top of the turning handle arm. Use the supplied Allen wrench and turn the screw clockwise to tighten. Insert the included cap to cover the screw.
  • To remove the turning handle arm, turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen and pull it off (be sure to place the hardware back in a bag and keep it where you can find it easily).

How to Prepare Your New Platinum SIX Black Machine For Use:

  • Use this machine on a clean, flat, dry, smooth surface. Make sure there is nothing to get in the way of the trays lying flat when opened. The rubberized bottom of the machine will provide stability on the clean, unobstructed surface.
  • Pull down the trays on both sides to slide the platforms and sandwiches through the machine.
  • When finished, fold up the trays for more compact storage.

How To Clean Your New Platinum SIX Black Machine:

  • Clean your machine with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use a cleaning product or chemical cleaners. Canned air can be used to remove dust and debris from small areas of the machine.
  • If the handle requires lubrication, place a small drop of household dish detergent between the white and silver parts of the turning handle, and rotate the turning handle to distribute the detergent. If the handle needs cleaning, remove and immerse it in clean water and clean it with dish detergent.
  • DO NOT use WD-40 (sold separately) on your machine.

TIPS:

  • Spellbinders cutting dies (sold separately) allow you to cut, emboss, deboss, and stencil. These dies will cut through a variety of materials such as paper, cardstock, thin foam, thin chipboard, thin fabrics, and thin leather. It is possible some of these materials may not work depending on the intricacy of the dies. The Contour steel rule dies cut multiple layers of many materials including chipboard, wool, felt, fabric, and thin craft metal sheets (all materials sold separately).
  • When working with other companies' products (sold separately), test them first. Most products will work with the New Spellbinders Platinum SIX Machine, but new products are always coming out that may not be compatible because of their thickness, etc.

WARNINGS:

  • There is a pinch hazard, so avoid the roller gears and/or placing your fingers between platforms and plates.
  • Do not overload your machine or apply excess pressure.
  • There is a cutting hazard so avoid contact with the die blades.
  • Supervision is required when used by children.
  • Do not use outdoors or near water.
  • Only use on a clean, dry, and flat surface.

    Platinum 6 For The Win

I have been fortunate enough or maybe not so much to have owned a Cuttlebug, a Big Shot, and now a Platinum 6. I first purchased the Cuttlebug and was very shortly disenchanted because I couldn't fit my steel rule dies through it. Which led me to purchasing the Big Shot because I could fit the steel rule dies and other 6" wide items through it. This was several years ago and it was my only other option at the time. But over time I became sick of this huge die cutting machine taking up precious desk space all the time. I die cut often enough that I didn't want to have to put a die cutter away and take it out over and over again. I wanted something that could sit on my work surface and not take up too much room. Because I had already invested in 2 other machines it took me a while but I finally was able to get the Platinum 6 and I am so happy that I bit the bullet and did. It's the perfect combination of form and function. Right out of the box I ran a 3D embossing folder through it and it came out clear and crisp. The handle is a strong metal and it was very easy to turn and get the thick embossing folder through. I then tested it on some super intricate dies and was very pleased. And yes it fits my steel rule dies. I wanted to be able to cut leather, cork and fabric and I like the ability to cut multiples at one time. It's a huge time saver for me. Oh and did I mention it's super cute on my desk too. Happy shopper here :)

    Worth Every Penny!!!

For years I longed to own a die cut and embossing machine, but held back because of certain limitations or bad reviews from buyers. My main motivations for purchasing the Spellbinder's Platinum 6 from Scrapbook.com.

    • Smooth and quiet operation. No cracking or popping noises during operation.

    • Multi-media cutting and embossing capabilities it can process a wide array of materials.

    • The Platinum's platforms fold up and the handle retracts to form a sleek and compact exterior design–making storage an absolute breeze.

    • It was on $ale!!!

  • Love it!

The Platinum 6 Die Cutting machine is simply great because you can use it for different die cutting and embossing needs since it comes with the standard platform, clear cutting plates, an embossing plate and mat! It is also so storage friendly which is just another bonus! I can easily fold the panels to put it in my cabinet. By the way, the first thing I noticed when I used this machine, is that it is quieter than others. When you run a die cut through, you won't hear (scary!) cracking or popping noises so there's no need to fear that your cutting pad will break in two. :) So overall, great machine that I'd recommend to anyone.

    Platinum 6

I absolutely love this machine. I have the Grand Calibur and love it also but at times it is so much larger than I need, I also have the Sapphire and am loving it also because it is great for the tiny things, kind of like the Three
Bears, Papa, Mama and Just Right! I believe the machines to be superior because they are quieter and smoother to operate. Not as cumbersome as the Sizzix products.

    Totally in love with it!

I'm a quite experienced die cutting machine user and should say that I absolutely love this one.

First of all and foremost - it does its cutting and embossing job very well (and that's why we buy such products in the first place - to die-cut and emboss).

I used it both with water thin and steel-rule dies and never had any problems die cutting them. It works beautifully with very intricate dies as well.

The instructions on the cutting platform very clear to understand and follow.

I appreciate the fact that embossing mat is included, so I don't need to hunt for it and buy separately.

And speaking of embossing - another feature that I love is that there is a separate plate for embossing.

So there is almost no guessing game of how to create a sandwich, less chances to use a wrong plate risking to break the machine.

The ability to fold it cutting surface is a big plus for me. This machine is very storage friendly. You do need to store plates separately, but I personally do store similar products for die-cutting in a bin, so it wasn't a problem for me.

And last but not least - I really love its clean, modern, Instagram worthy design and look :)

  • Cutting Copper Sheets and Soda Cans!

I really love the Platinum 6 for cutting unconventional materials. I'm an artist and make outdoor garden art and wreaths, so they have to last the elements more than paper can. The Platinum 6 cuts through sheets of copper and soda cans, as well as thick wool felted sweaters and fabric. It's essential to my studio.

    My favorite one

I absolutely love this machine. I've possessed Sizzix Big Kick and Big Plus machines, so I have something to compare with.

First, I like that the pressure while cutting is slightly more heavy than in Sizzix, it's quite important while you're using the delicate and intricate dies .

The Second, the great advantage is that the started set that goes with the machine has the embossing mat and the pad. For instance, Sizzix doesn't have those and you need to buy them separately.

Also I like the fact that the sides fold up and it's quite easy for your storage to keep the machine.
and I really love how it looks , pretty

  • Strong, Sturdy and well-designed

I've had quite a few die cutting machines in my time and this is one of the best. It looks great, and because the platforms fold up it takes little space on the desk when not in use.
I've had the machine a few months now, but I think I'm still learning the best way to use it for different materials, and which sandwiches to use for best results. Like all things, its worth taking the time to experiment!
My one 'issue' is that it's still very stiff and hard work turning the handle when cutting some dies and cardstock. I have a shoulder problem so this is a real concern when I'm doing a lot of die-cutting and embossing. Hopefully the machine will get 'easier in time - I saw somewhere that there might be a motor attachment in the pipeline and that would be really fab for me. On the meantime if anyone has a solution, or suggestions that would help, I'd love to hear then,

  • Platinum Performance

I have used many die cutting machines over the years and this machine tops them all. I love the small foot print and ease of use! I use it actually more than I ever thought I would and not usually for paper crafting which is a testament to this machines versatility!
I have cut balsa wood, crafting foam, fabric, and vinyl and have loved the results. I highly recommend this machine!

    Disappointed

I bought this machine to die cut intricate dies and emboss with stencils. It does die cut the intricate dies, better then other machine I have, but the paper remains in the die and is difficult to remove. So far I have been unable to emboss using a stencil. Used different sandwiches to no avail. My old machine has a magnetic platform and the Platinum 6 does not. Contacted Spellbinders and there is no magnetic platform available.

  • I have followed the instructions explicitly that were included with my spellbinders platinum 6 and have yet to successfully emboss a card with an embossing folder using your instructions. I put in the platform then the embossing folder with the card and then the plastic plate. That in itself just quickly runs through the machine without embossing because there's not enough pressure. I have to add 3 pieces of card stock to make it thicker. Is there something I am missing?   By: sanuhl (16-Jun-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • I had to switch to my old trusty Sizzix machine to use 3d embossing folders. I broke a couple forcing the sandwich to go thru, the on-line store I bought them from were so incredibly nice that they replaced them for free. I tried every instruction, emailed for help, tried every sandwich that I found from every stamping guru and I never got it to work. My old machine is reliable and does work. • I had the same exact experience. I followed direction exactly, and it slid through without embossing my paper inside the embossing folder. I tried every way, using different plates. It was either too thick and would not go through the machine or too thin and did not emboss. I figured my machine was defective, so I sent it back. So disappointed as I wanted it to work. If someone has the answer to this problem, I would really like to hear from you. I am not a beginner at embossing greeting cards as I have used the early model of the spellbinder for over ten years. Hope someone has the answer to this problem. By: kaekjeff (30-Apr-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

I'm new to embossing, but have purchased a few 5x7 embossing folders. I'm thinking of purchasing this machine. I've read the embossing instructions, but am a little confused. Doesn't the paper go inside the embossing folder? Do I need to cut my embossing folder ? The instructions say:

    Insert the base platform
Add your die cut or paper of choice to the top of the Cutting Plate
Place the embossing mat on the top of your die cut or paper
    Add embossing plate
Run through the machine by turning the handle

Thanks for any help.   By: User (13-Feb-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!

    • Embossing folders are different than the embossing mat. The instructions you mentioned are to turn your dies into embossing. If you use the mat instead of the die plate it will put an impression into the paper instead of cutting it. Another way to stretch your dies. Embossing folders hold the paper inside and should never be cut apart. Hope this helps. By: mzlikely (03-Jan-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • If your Platinum 6 handle requires lubrication, you can remedy this quickly
and easily. Place a small drop of household dish detergent between the
white and bronze parts of the handle and rotate the handle to distribute.
Alternately, you can remove and immerse the handle into clean water
with dish detergent. Do not use chemicals such as WD-40. By: Scrapbook.com (12-Jul-22) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
