"My Lonely Christmas" (Army Wives lonely Christmas)

"My Lonely Christmas"

As I lay down to sleep, this eve of Christmas morn, '
I slide between the cotton sheets so comfortable and warm.

A tinge of guilt comes over me followed by a saddened tear.
I say another lonely prayer that only God can hear.

I turn the bedside light off and quickly settle in,
but it will be a few more hours before my night comes to an end.

I lie here all but motionless, eyes wider than the sky.
I try to think of happy thoughts, but I still break down and cry.

I punch my flattened pillow and lie flat on my back.
I'm thinking of my soldier who's bravely serving in Iraq.

I finally stop my crying and a calm sets in my heart.
For, I know this year will quickly pass, then we'll no longer be apart.

My eyes are feeling heavy now, so I send God one last prayer.
"God, please protect my soldier while fighting over there!"

'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that ST. NICHOLAS soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.

"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONNER and BLITZEN!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL,
AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT."

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
(My version…)

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the world,
Stood the guardians of Freedom, some young and some old.

Their rifles were spotless and zeroed with care,
Looking for the danger they know will be there.

They fear for their children at home in their beds,
Yearning for the touch of a kiss on their heads.

And there I was, prepared for the fight,
Wondering when the evil of war would ignite.

When out of the dust there arose such a clatter,
I swiveled around to see what was the matter.

Outside the window I saw a huge flash,
The air tasted rancid, of fuel and of trash.

The sound of my comrades cries in the air,
Sent chills down my spine, to cold to bare.

When, what to my angered eyes should appear,
But a valiant young Soldier, showing no fear!

With bullets whizzing over his head,
I knew in a moment the bad guys were dead.

Out of the smoke, more Soldiers they came,
Young warriors who knew that this was no game.

We deftly maneuvered, aiming to kill,
Secretly saddened by the blood that we spill.

After the battle, on edge and so tired,
We relive the moments each bullet was fired.

Back at the FOB, I lay down and stare,
Thinking of all of the reasons I’m there.

Wiping my face with my own bloodied glove,
I think of my family and all of their love.

I think of their faces with a tear in my eye,
Glad that today was not my turn to die.

I think of America, and all of her beauty,
Honored to serve her, it’s not just my duty.

As I lay in my bed thinking of Christmas,
I smile from the thought of the joy that it brings us.

I know you can’t hear me, but I’m just out of sight,

Behold the Christ child is born this day,
just as the prophets of old did say.
In a manger on the cozy hay
did his infant Lordship choose to stay.
No cradle by a thousand kings paid
for, would befit his divine highness
whose crown is celestial and priceless,
glowing with gems of regal brightness.
Yet in a manger so low he laid.

Behold the Christ child, God's timeless gift,
who will from sin's merciless bondage lift
men to heights from where they went adrift
from God's intended realm in Eden.
His birth in yuletide our lives sweeten
with lit golden marbles to lighten
dark alleys which were once stress ridden.

A Candy Maker's Witness

A candy maker in Indiana wanted to make a candy that would be a witness, so he made the Christmas Candy Cane. He incorporated several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ.

He began with a stick of pure white, hard candy. White to symbolize the virgin birth and the sinless nature of Jesus; and hard to symbolize the solid rock, the foundation of the Church, and firmness of the promises of God.

The candy maker made the candy in the form of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to earth as our Saviour. It could also represent the staff of the "Good Shepherd" with which He reaches down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep, have gone astray.

Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain, the candy maker stained it with red stripes. He used three small stripes to show the stripes of the scouring Jesus received by which we are healed. The large red stripe was for the blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could have the promise of eternal life.

Unfortunately, the candy became known as a candy cane - a meaningless decoration seen at Christmas time. But the meaning is still there for those who "have eyes to see and ears to hear". I pray that this symbol will again be used to witness to the WONDER OF JESUS AND HIS GREAT LOVE that came down at Christmas and remains the ultimate and dominate force in the universe today.

A CHRISTMAS LESSON

“Is there a purpose?” “Why are we here?”
A little boy asked as the yuletide drew near.
“I really do hope that someday I will know the reason we stand out here in the snow
ringing this bell as people walk by while snowflakes descend from out of the sky.”

The mother just smiled at her shivering son
who would rather be playing and having some fun
but soon would discover before evening was done
the meaning of Christmas the very first one.

The young boy exclaimed, “Mother, where does it go?”
“All the pennies we collect every year in the snow.”
“Why do we do it?” “Why do we care?”
“We work for these pennies so why should we share.”

“Because once a small baby, so meek and so mild
was born in a manger.” She said to the child.
“The Son of a King was born in this way
To give us the message He carried that day.”

“You mean baby, Jesus?” Is He why we’re here
ringing this bell at Christmas time every year?”
“Yes” said the mother, “That is why you should know
about the very first Christmas a long time ago.”

“The present God gave to the world on that night
Was the gift of His Son to make everything right.
Why did He do it? Why did He care?
to teach about loving and how we should share.”

“The meaning of Christmas you see my dear son
is not about presents and just having fun.
But the gift of a Father – His own precious Son
so the world would be saved when His work was all done.

Now the little boy smiled with a tear in his eye
As snowflakes kept falling from out of the sky –
rang louder the bell as the people walked by
while down deep in his heart at last he knew why.

A CHRISTMAS POEM

I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book
And every year when Christmas comes, I go and take a look,
And that is when I realize that these names are a part
Not of the book they are written in, but really of my heart

For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime,
And in the meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme
And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim,
I really feel that I'm composed of each remembered name

And while you may not be aware of any special link
Just meeting you has changed my life a lot more than you think
For once I've met somebody, the years cannot erase
The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face

So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine
Of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between,
For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you,
It is because you're on the list that I'm indebted to

For You are but a total of the many folks I've met,
And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget
And whether I have known you for many years or few,
In some ways you have a part in shaping things I do

And every year when Christmas comes, I realize a new,
The best gifts life can offer is meeting folks like you.
And may the spirit of Christmas that forever endures
Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of mine and yours

A December to remember(Love at Christmas)

A lovely December morning like this,
connotes nothing else in our world but bliss.
A time to mine our richest depths of love
on fifth avenue's apartments above.
Every split second is worth a lifetime
with your warm presence in this wintertime.
A kiss from you is like an explosive.
Your lips hypnotize with a corrosive
touch of arousal and sensuality,

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
Sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack; brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts...
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "It's really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures; he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother...
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that, you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

A MARINE CHRISTMAS POEM

The Embers Glowed Softly
And In Their Dim Light
I Gazed Around The Room

A Marine's Night Before Christmas

"Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one-bedroom
house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with
presents to give, and to see just who in this house did live.

I looked all about, a strange sight I did see, no tinsel, no presents,
not even a tree.

No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand, on the wall hung
pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kinds, a sober thought came
through my mind.

For this house was different, it was dark and dreary; I found the home
of a Marine, once I could see clearly.

The Marine lay sleeping, silent, alone, curled up on the floor in this
one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder, not how I pictured a
United States Marine.

Was this the hero of whom I'd just read? Curled up on a poncho, the
floor for a bed?

I realized the families that I saw this night, owed their lives to these
Marines who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play, and grownups would
celebrate a bright Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, because of the Marines,
like the one lying here.

I couldn't help but wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas Eve in a
land far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and
started to cry.

The Marine awakened and I heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry, this
life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more, my life is my God, my
Country, my Corps."

The Marine rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I
continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent and still and we both shivered from
the cold night's chill.

I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark night, this guardian of honor
so willing to fight.

Then the Marine rolled over, with a voice soft and pure, whispered,
"Carry on Santa, It's Christmas Day, all is secure."

One look at my watch, and I knew he was right. "Merry Christmas my
friend, and to all a good night!"

A Nursery Rhyme for Advent

Joyous angels an entire night spent,
singing with flutes they ceased to relent.
Shepherds lowly pitch their dusty tent.
A story indeed reminiscent
of ageless advents when we all went
to sing in churches in wintry Kent.
In fright we gazed at Santa's beard length,
in a speed sleigh drawn by the Elks' strength.
We sought more fun for an extra cent.
But after pleasure we did repent,
speaking solemn words of a good gent:
'Oh, what a pleasant time in advent,
to usher in the infant God sent.'

A Politician's Wish

Dear Santa:
I sincerely tried to be good,
Though, according to the media,
I haven't voted as I should;
There have been lobbyists,
Analysts, critics, and more,
And I have endured filibusters
On the Senate floor;
There have been rumors,
Innuendos, an endless gestalt,
But whatever it was,
It wasn't my fault.

My secretary typed this letter,
So you won't have to check it twice;
I bought her a new spellchecker,
A right nifty device;
I want a primary win,
Because I can't lose--
If I am defeated,
It'll mean cement overshoes!
I swear I didn't squander donations
On caviar and cocktails,
So I also want a crack attorney
To keep me out of jail.

And entitlements galore;
I'll leave milk and cookies

A Word from the Turkey

There is one
Who hates Thanksgiving to a "t";
Do you know who it is?
It's the turkey.

Thanksgiving is biased,
Can't you see?
There is turkey dressing
And turkey gravy.

It is a jugular truth:
It's the turkey who gets basted;
Just a couple swings
And he gets wasted.

What do turkey want?
How about shrimp on the menu,
A burrito and hot salsa
Would be a more amiable venue.

Quit calling it "turkey day,"
It gives them an anxiety complex;
Turkeys want life and liberty;
It just might save their necks!

Advent Prayer

Oh, let us turn away from noise,
The clamor of the day,
To rest in solitude with Him;
Our blessings to survey.
Oh, let our inner joy release
Our carol to The King,
To worship Him, to feel the touch

Baby's First Christmas

It's Baby's first Christmas,
what a beautiful sight!
As he gurgles out loud in spontaneous delight.
As he gazes at the Tree, with it's baubles and trim

The clock chimed midnight, Santa rose.
He went to his closet to put on his clothes.


Dressed in bright red and,

On Dasher. On Dancer, On Prancer, and Vixen.
On Comet. On Cupid, Donder and Blitzen.


Santa took flight,

All year long,
the elves work hard.

but I don't have a clue; I haven't for days

I've picked through your words like a tramp in a bin;
your mumbles at night for some sign:
each phrase a cadaver so painfully thin -
with no glint of a hint - there's just nine

days to shop, and I should 'til I've flopped

The bells of waiting Advent ring,
The Tortoise stove is lit again
And lamp-oil light across the night
Has caught the streaks of winter rain.

Night Before Christmas For Moms
Twas the night before Christmas, when all thru the abode
only one creature was stirring, and she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
while visions of Nintendo 64 and Barbie, flipped through their heads.
The dad was snoring in front of the TV,
with a half-constructed bicycle on his knee.
So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
which made her sigh, "Now what's the matter?"
With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
she descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes and soot, which fell with a shrug.
"Oh great," muttered the mom, "Now I have to clean the rug."
"Ho-ho-ho!" cried Santa, "I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially difficult to make."
"Thanks, Santa, but all I want is some time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled, "I've made you a clone."
"A clone?" she asked, "What good is that?
Run along, Santa, I've no time for chit-chat."
The mother's twin. Same hair, same eyes,
same double chin. "She'll cook, she'll dust,"
she'll mop every mess. You'll relax, take it easy,
watch The Young & the Restless." "Fantastic!" the mom cheered.
"My dream come true! "I'll shop. I'll read.,
I'll sleep a whole night through!"
From the room above, the youngest began to fret.
"Mommy?! I scared... and I 'm wet."
The clone replied, "I'm coming, sweetheart."
"Hey," the mom smiled, "She knows her part."
The clone changed the small one, and hummed a tune,
as she bundled the child, in a blanket cocoon.
"You the best mommy ever. " I really love you."
The clone smiled and sighed, "I love you, too."
The mom frowned and said, "Sorry, Santa, no deal."
That's my child's love, she's trying to steal."
Smiling wisely Santa said, "To me it is clear,"
Only one loving mother, is needed here."
The mom kissed her child, and tucked her into bed.
"Thank you, Santa, " for clearing my head.
I sometimes forget, it won't be very long,
when they'll be too old, for my cradle-song."
The clock on the mantle began to chime.
Santa whispered to the clone, "It works every time."
With the clone by his side Santa said, "Goodnight.
Merry Christmas, Mom, You'll be all right."

Christmas in war-torn Africa

I woke up early on a Christmas morn.
Gladly waiting for Santa before dawn.
Looking through blinds in anxiety I'd torn,
I'd hoped to see him approaching my lawn,
in costumes in previous years he had worn.
But in disguise he came with a French horn,
playing elegies of demons unborn.
Wheat, barley, oats, rice and grains of sweet corn
filled his socks for a land which was war-torn.
I'd thought the usual Santa would return.
But a different Santa came to fore-warn
me of a nagging menace that had drawn
my nation to the brink, and seeks to drown
her in a season of yuletide to mourn.

Christmas Morning: A Christmas Memories Poem

Christmas morning comes
And little feet pitter patter to the living room.
Children are excited to see the Christmas stockings hanging from the fire place stuffed and presents all wrapped with care sitting under the Christmas tree.

Stockings are opened
and breakfast of waffles and hot chocolate are had.

Then their is a panic and rush to get the turkey into the oven so that it can be enjoyed in the evening around the table by loved ones.

My Christmas Realization


My only wish this Christmas
was for it to snow.
I knew it impossible, never to happen.
How silly to snow in a place like Florida.


I never was alive when it last snowed
if ever. If it ever will.
What a perfect Christmas to snow.


I wish a perfect Christmas for me to have.
Like those Christmas cards, shows and stories.
I believe every year something was missing from
my Christmases.


The only thing missing was snow, a white Christmas.

Dear Santa I can Explain

Dear Santa, I heard I was on your naughty list,
and I wasn’t getting any presents this year.
You have to give me a second chance,
there’s something you need to hear.
If it’s all about the gum in my brothers hair,
that was something I did on a dare.
If it’s about my sister’s bike and flat tire,
to have her cry was not my desire.
I tried to fix her bicycle spokes and I
guess I slipped and the tire got poked.
And about coloring grandpa’s false teeth in,
I just wanted him to have a special grin.
I was just keeping my ant farm warm in my parents bed,
I had no idea they would turn three shades of red.
And for adding the extra yeast to grandma’s bread dough,
How was I to know it would make it grow, and grow.
So as you see I was not trying to be mean or hateful
I was experimenting being playful.
So I hope you take in everything I have said,
and get the gist.
I need those presents,
take my off the naughty list.

A Dinosaur for Christmas
A dinosaur for Christmas
is the only thing I need.
It doesn't matter if it's slow
or one that's built for speed.

A massive one, a tiny one
or one that's in between.
A dinosaur that's muddy brown
or bright and shiny green.

I don't care if it's big and tall
or really old and ugly.
I don't care if it's rough and tough

I am having my first Christmas in Heaven
A glorious, wonderful day!
I am standing with saints of all ages,
Who found Christ, the truth and the way

I am singing with the heavenly choir
I- who so loved to sing!
And, oh what celestial music
We bring to our Savior and King

I am singing the glad song of redemption,
How Jesus to Bethlehem came,
And why they called His name Jesus,
That all may be saved through His Name!

With all of the rapture in glory,
I witness in Heaven so fair!

You know how I always loved Christmas,
It seemed such a wonderful day,

Gift Wrapping Blues

There went my last scrap of paper,
I don't have a plea!
With all these ToysRUs purchases,
I'm going to need a new tree;

My Nostalgic Christmas

I heard an old old Christmas song,
sung by grandma on Christmas eve.
It wasn't in good stanzas long,
but it did the joyous times retrieve.
It gladdened my heart which did grieve
over all I thought I'd done wrong,
and could not annually achieve.
It did convey emotions strong
of joyous moments to relive:
Modest gifts, traditional meals
and the sweet scent of warmth that heals.
Contented in want we all shared,
whilst our affections showed we cared.
All on our humble home converged,

My Surprise Gift

It didn't come trimmed with ribbon or topped off with a bow,
I didn't find it wrapped in pretty paper, under the tree or mistletoe.
It wasn't something we planned to purchase, it didn't cost one cent.
It wasn't something I new I wanted or asked for as a present.
It didn't even realize it was something I would need,
I had long forgotten about Santa, until I saw it and had to believe.
It came on a whim, as we were trimming the tree for the season,
It came just in time, and for all the right reasons.
This picture of us, a daughter and her mom,
Smiling into the camera and having a good time.
It filled me with happiness, joy and glee,
To see you there smiling so sweetly with me.
It made my heart sputter and skip a beat,
To hold you in my arms seems quite a treat.
It seems like the last time was so long ago,
Because, Oh My, how ever so quickly you grow.
It reminded me I need to take time each year,
To capture you smiling with me from ear to ear.

One Cold Winter Night

God looked down one cold winter night
to see the world fighting. What a terrible sight.
He remembered a time when He sent them a gift
That made them all happy and each heart would lift.

"Have they now all forgotten that night long ago when
I sent them my son to that manger below?"
"The lessons he taught them. The life that he lived.
That serving each other is how they should live?

He called on His angels and gave them a task
to help people remember that love from the past.
So they flew down to Earth, to the hearts of every man,
to fill them with love, which was Jesus' plan.

You see Christ has the power to soften each heart
when not only angels but we all do our part.
The Spirit of love, acceptance, and worth
all came to the world with that baby boy's birth.

So now may we all start spreading the love
our Father has given from Heaven above.
And God can look down on this Christmas Eve night
to see love and forgiveness what a beautiful sight.

I like to visit Santa Claus
When Christmastime is near.
It's fun to climb up on his lap

Oh what a pleasant day to behold.
A glorious evening in December,
a day we are sure to remember
the nostalgic happy days of old.

Oh what beautiful moments unfold.
The gladdened carol voices raised,

Oh what momentous delights abound;
the merriment from hearts well laden with Joy,

The Last Present Under the Tree

There is one last present under the Christmas tree,
I wonder whose it is?
Is it for the little girl with the rocking horse,
Or is it for Grandma or Aunt Liz?
It looks so lonely
Sitting there by itself;
It'd certainly be an awesome addition
On "somebodys" shelf.

The ribbon is gold,
The paper is paisley red;
"Who does it belong to?"
Keeps rattling in my head;
I decided to snatch a peek,
And see whose name is on the card;
It'd only take a second,
It won't be very hard.

When no one was looking,
I reached under the tree,
Carefully handling the package,
"Who knows, it may be for me!"
But when I read the card,
I thought it was extraordinarily odd,
Because the message read,
"Love and blessings," God.

I feel the spirit of Christmas all around me
The spirit of Christmas is in the air
Especially during December

The spirit of Christmas is all around me
It’s buying coffee or tea for a homeless person to warm their insides
It’s writing a letter to a friend or relative
It’s knitting and crocheting and then giving your knitted and crocheted items to the needy
It’s giving your time to volunteer

Twas the night before xmas (scrapping version)

Twas the night before Christmas,
And all through the home,
Only one creature was stirring,
A late night scrapper alone.

While she cropped and she trimmed,
Under her breath she was muttering,
"He hid my darn Hermafix",
The poor wife was stuttering!

When out on the lawn,
There arose such a clatter,
She sprang from her table,
And dropped her Magic Matter.

Away to the window
She flew like a flash
Thinking maybe it was UPS
Bringing more for her stash!

But what to her wandering eyes
Should appear
But a miniature (die cut) sleigh
And eight (punchie) reindeer!

With a little old driver
So lively and quick
She knew right away
It was Jolee old St Nick

He carried a sack
Filled up to the brim
With paper packs, cardstock
And templates crammed in.

There were Punches, and stickers
And eyelets galore
There was even a Sizzix font
Not yet in the stores!

He went quickly to work
Storing it all under the tree
The wire, the fibres
And all acid free!

"Those whale Punches are heavy"
She heard him exclaim
Then he turned to his reindeer
And called them by name:

"On Buyer and Stasher
Puncher and Cropper,
On Scrapper, on Matter,
On Trimmer, On Cutter"

And he sprang to his sleigh
But before he could leave,
The woman yelled "STOP",
And pulled a camera from her sleeve.

She snapped some quick photos
For future keepsake,
Thinking all the while,
Of the layout she'd make!

And she heard him exclaim,
When she finally let him go,
"Happy Scrapping to All"
And to all "HO HO HO"

What shall we give the children?
Christmas is almost here.
Toys, games and playthings
as we do every year?

Yes, for the magic toyland
is part of the Yuletide lore
To gladden the heart of childhood
but I shall give something more.

I shall give them patience
a more sympathetic ear
A little more laughter
or tenderly dry a tear.

I shall take time to teach them
the joy of doing some task
I'll try to find time to answer
more the the questions they ask.

Time to read books together
and take long walks in the sun
Time for a bedtime story
after the day is done.

I shall give these to my children
weaving a closer time
Knitting our lives together
with the gifts that money can't buy.

When Christmas is Over

When Christmas is over,
The real work begins;
Oh, no, do you mean
I have to go though this again?
I just caught a glimmer
From an avalanche of dishes;
Did I miss something,
Or are there additional Christmas wishes?

Your humor is warped,
It's twisted insanity,
Believe it, one Christmas
Is plenty for me;
Let the snowmen melt,
Retire Rudolph to the farm;
How dare you cause me
Such a horrific alarm?

When Christmas is over,
The real work begins
Because it, really, is
A means to an end;
Think of it,
I'll give you a clue:
Kindness and generosity
Begin with you.

Christmas is a step,
But only a taste,
To making the world
A more Santa-like place;
You can hear a sermon,

While Shopping (for someone who is scared of Santa)

While shopping I saw Santa Claus
And what a joy it was to see,
All the little girls and boys
Waiting to sit upon his knee.
All the gifts that I had bought
And planned to hurry home and wrap,
Suddenly seemed to be forgotten
As each child climbed upon his lap.
Their eyes were filled with wonderment
Their love for him was plain to see,
And as they told him all their wants
He listened so attentively.
Each laughed with the jolly bearded man,
Some gave him a hug or a kiss,
And I was filled with wonderment
To see such love and trust as this.
One child in particular, though,
thought he was a stranger,
she looked at him, then looked at me
as if she was in danger!
Don’t cry, sweet baby, Santa loves you so
And when you get older, this you will certainly know.

Yep...A Week Before Christmas..........

Yep a week before Christmas and all through the house, Not a thing has been done...I feel like a louse. The tree's on the front step and not in it's bowl, the gifts aren't bought yet, I have no control!!!! The stress and the tension are starting to mount, I'm panicking ever so slightly no doubt. The family is waiting for Christmas you see....for me to provide another Great Christmas to be...and I sit here and wonder...how will it get done? To prepare for this wonder...to have so much fun??? Well I'll have to rely on an old trick of mine...prioritize the tree, the gifts, and my time.
