Anything But, Me

When I first heard of the news.
My heart said “You have nothing now to lose.�
For I am a statue without the ability to feel
No motion can my body make.
I’m forced to watch the same very still place.
From time to time, I catch a glimpse of her face.
Yesterday was such a perfect place
Time should have to stood still for this special case
I won’t remember much of today
So, please Take me back to yesterday.
“A daughter should not have to feel this way!�
I say to you.�With out her, what will I do?�
“Do you hear me? I demand the heavens and space!�
“You must take me back to yesterday�
A mannequin is what I want to be.
No heart, or soul within me
“I’m telling you now make it one way�
I don’t wont to be in today.
A painted picture is what I want to be
A silhouette of her and me.
A picture unhappiness free, as it’s supposed to be.
I’m begging you on my knees,“ Please choose one of these�
A star is what I want to be, keeping yesterday forever with me.
Up in the heavens with the earthly pain beneath my feet.
Shining in the lucid sky, with no tears in my eyes.
You must see that today can never happen to me
“I’m insisting you answer me at once.�
“I obeyed your every command�
“ I let your will be mine�
“Now you answer me this time�
Silence is all I received.
Anger torment and misery
Misty eyes on my somber face.
As empty tears roll down my cheek.
I calmly repeat:
“Please make me free from heart ache today!�
“Take me back to yesterday.�
Forgive me, This is the right way--- (Today!)

~ She always will be ~

I’m sure that each day in one way or another,
Each child gently enters the mind of their mother.
No matter if they are beside her or far,
She will pray for their safety where ever they are.

She has given them life and has given them love,
And her heart holds them close as a hand in a glove.
No matter their problems, no matter how wild,
She will always have love in her heart for her child.

As time carries on and she watches them grow,
She will do all she can to make sure that they know,
Each one must decide what they choose to achieve,
And follow the way of the things they believe.

She’ll guide them and teach them through days of their youth,
To be independent and always speak truth.
She will sacrifice much yet she’ll never complain
In her quest for her children, their dreams to attain.

Though her strength sometimes waver, her patience be tried
She will give it her all, setting her wants aside.
And when they are grown and they fly from the nest
She knows even then she cannot stop to rest.

For no matter how high or how far they may fly
They will still be the twinkle that shines in her eye
Each one is a jewel that she holds in her heart
That she’s cared for and comforted right from the start.

So she’ll still carry on in her vigilant way
To care and to pray for her children each day.
She’s the rock that they lean on, the root of their Tree
And no matter what happens, She always will be.

28 years and 17 days

It has been 28 years and 17 days
since we were last together.
So we held each other so tightly-
never to let go again

You looked at me and I looked at you
seeking confirmation-
after all these years we actually reached
the right destination

We went for a walk and you held my hand
as we crossed a busy road.

My soul and my heart invited you in
hoping that our new life would begin.

And so we embarked on a journey of our own
that would prove best left alone.

Today I look back and remember the day-

WE CANNOT SEE THE ANGELS
YET WE KNOW THEY ARE NEAR,
WE CANNOT TOUCH AN ANGEL

SEE THE LOVELY BUTTERFLY,

THEY ARE REALLY TINY ANGELS
FLOATING UNSEEN AMONG US EVERY DAY...
THEY ARE HERE TO HELP US
THESE ANGELS IN DISGUISE,
THEY HAVE TAKEN THE EARTHLY BODY
OF HUNDREDS OF LOVELY BUTTERFLIES.
THEY SEEM TO NOT TO NOTICE US
TRAVELING ON WINGS OF FRAGILE LACE,
THEY DART AMONG FLOWER PETALS
THEIR JOURNEY TAKES THEM MANY A PLACE.
AS YOU LOOK AROUND AND SEE A BUTTERFLY
ON A WARM SUMMER DAY,
IT JUST MIGHT BE YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
CHECKING ON YOU IN HER SECRET WAY...
WHEN I SEE THE BEAUTY OF A BUTTERFLY
THE DELICATE WINGS IN A FLUTTER,
I FEEL THE CLOSENESS OF GOD
AS THE ANGEL IS MY MOTHER...

I have always enjoyed watching the
delicate flight of Butterflies - their
fragile beauty among flowers - as they
seem to flutter in space tasting the
nectar of the blossoms. I lost my
Mother on February 12, 1990 - so now
when I see these tiny creatures I
always feel like they are Angels -
someone who is in Heaven now guarding
over us. In the summer there are so
many Butterflies seeking their loved
ones here on earth.

A Daughter

All mothers need a daughter-
someone like her to be
To dress her up and take her out
for all the world to see.
To brush her hair so shiny
the pretty bows to tie
To teach her how to clean her room
and how to bake a pie.

It was very hard to say goodbye
When it was time to let you fly

A day at the park with Mom is so fun
To and from the swings I run and run
Jump on the tire and turn all about
“Gimme a push mom!” are words I’ll shout
Pump my legs on the swings I’ll do
Don’t pump too hard you’ll lose a shoe!
Up and over the top I’ll go
And see the whole world way down below
I’ll swing so high no one will see
Me fly to the sky on the clouds I’ll be
Sit on the wagon with my mom and pose

A Grandmother's Love

As children, we can't comprehend or fully realize the meaning of a grandmother's love. How wise she is, how much patience she has, or how much guidance she gives us by her example and by her helpful caring ways. Years go by before we know and understand the depth of her concern and the love in her protectiveness. But as we mature we do finally understand and we can look back and see through older eyes and wiser hearts her unconditional love, devotion, and family loyalty. It's these and many other things that make us realize how lucky we have been and how lucky we are to have this amazing woman - our grandmother - as the centered root of strength and love in our life.

A Mothers Heart

I loved you from the very start, you stole my breath, embraced my heart. Our life together has just begun, you're a part of me little one.

As mother with child, each day I grew, my mind was filled with thoughts of you.

I'd daydream of the things wed share, like late night feedings and teddy bears. Like first steps and skinned knees, like bedtime stories and ABC's.

I thought of things you'd want to know, like how birds fly and flowers grow. I thought of lessons I'd need to share, like standing tall and playing fair.

When I first saw your precious face, I prayed your life be touched with grace. I thanked the angels from above, and promised you un-ending love.

Each night I lay you down to sleep, I gently kiss your head and cheek. i count your little fingers and toes, I memorize your eyes and nose.

I linger at your nursery door, awed each day I love your more. Through misty eyes I dim the light, I whisper "I love you" every night.

I loved your from the very start, you stole my breath, embraced my heart. As mother and child our journeys just begun, my heart is yours **forever** my little one.

A Mother's Love

She sits there watching with beautiful Angel wings, through the stars from Heaven above, knowing the strength and power of a mother’s love.

You really couldn't have known how much she loved you so for you still needed time to grow. The time passed and you were finally grown, with a daughter of your own this is when you finally learned the things she’s always known.

I looked into her tiny face with eyes so bright and blue, I stroked her downy hair, so soft and blond, this is when I really knew the strength of a mother and daughter bond. I really didn't know how much you loved me until I had time to grow and have a daughter of my own.

Time will pass and she to might have a daughter of her own, this is when she will understand the things we have always known. She will look into her tiny face with eyes so bright and blue and she will stroke her downy hair so soft and blond, only then will she truly understand the strength of a mother and daughter bond.

The beauty of nature is forever seen
By oh so many, who don't know what they mean
The beauty of the trees and their enormous heights
The beauty of the birds and their gift of flight

The sun, moon and stars are God sent lights
Most things we take for granted are beautiful sights
The beauty of them all and the beauty of others
Are no comparisons in the beauty of mothers

They are God's most precious gift to humanity
The most worked, yet least rewarded thing to be
With all that we put them through, they seldom complain
All the things they do for us, we still view them the same

Have you ever tried to put yourself in her place
When you say your unkind words or grin and make fun to her face

Angel Moms

Angel Moms

We have shared our tears and our sorrow,
We have given encouragement to each other,
Given hope for a brighter tomorrow,
We share the title of grieving mother.

Some of us lost older daughters or sons,
Who we watched grow over the years,
Some have lost their babies before their lives begun,
But no matter the age , we cry the same tears.

We understand each others pain,
The bond we share is very strong,
With each other there is no need to explain,
The path we walk is hard and long.

Our children brought us together,
They didn't want us on this journey alone,
They knew we needed each other,
To survive the pain of them being gone.

it's your un-adult-erated
toothless open mouthed smile
the way your little froggy tree trunk legs
kick
how you've learned to lean in
toward your spoon
seeing your little lower lip quiver
and two of the tiniest tears trail down your cheeks
the sound of your voice
coming from the other room
slowly
inCREASING
in VOLUME
scream-ering just
for the sheer pleasure of it
then dying away
to a babble of vowels and
tongue induced syllables
filled with L sounds
the way you reach purposefully
and miss completely
flexing your fingers in surprise
that they didn't do what you wanted
or the way you grab
your own hands
and quickly
draw them to your mouth
simultaneously exploring
the soft wet surfaces
along with the firm tapers and kinks
of your fingers
your "yuck" face whenever you taste something new
the press of your downy head
as you curl sweetly into my shoulder
trusting and limp
your fingers tangled in my shirt
every audible breath
a soothing reassurance of warmth
causing me to press kisses against you
sighing thankfully
that you're mine

Before I was A Mom

Before I was a Mom I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom I slept as late as I wanted.
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was Mom I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to lullabies.

Before I was a Mom I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, peed on,
or pinched by tiny fingers.
Before I was a Mom I had complete control of my mind, my thoughts, my body
and all my feelings. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom I never held down a screaming child so that doctors
could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want
to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the
hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my
body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every
10 minutes to make sure all was OK.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache or the
satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much......

Blessings From the Sky

Our Children are our reflection in a way...
They grow not different from who you are really...
Be daring to accept that once upon a time you would have done the same..
Be brave to accept that time will surely steal them in a way.

No one needs you everyday...they just think of you much more maybe..

Cry of a Mother

A mother's anguish was kept
So her children would not see her wept
Grasped the burden that her family has
Took all the ache and hardships they have

She prepares for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Brings her children to school and fetch them after
She washes the clothes and cleans the house
Rinse the dishes and so with cars

The exhaustion she felt was unnoticed
Giving a bit of time for herself she could not promise
The love for her family she has is undying
Only to see her children smiling she feels like flying

To be a mother is not easy
Giving up so much of her just for you to be happy
Unconditional love is what she needs
So the doubts that rankles her mind somehow will diminish..

Dear Mama

Hi, how have things been,
I just can't wait till I see you again.
Things here on earth are better for me,
I'm sure you know cause you're watching me.

Can you believe it's been a year since you went away,
Of course, for me, it feels like a day.
I can't even describe how much I miss you,
I wish I could tell you one more time, "I love you".

I love you more everyday that goes by,
But I still continue to ask God, "Why?".
Why did He take my mama away,
Oh why God, why couldn't she stay?

Why couldn't you stay here and be with me,
I had all these plans for us you see.
I miss all the little things more than the rest,
Like cooking, shopping, and talking, the things you did best.

I miss all the times that we were alone,
I even miss arguing over the phone.
Without you there's no will to be strong,
But I know you're with me helping me on.

Sometimes I wish that this is a dream,
And I'll wake up with you smiling at me.
But I only wake up to another day,
And realize you're watching from far away.

Sometimes I think of that night I left,
That one night I will always regret.
Because I ask myself one question you see,
Would you be sitting right here with me?

Is that a stupid question to ask,
Could I have really changed the past?

Today as I knelt to thank the Lord, for all that I’ve received,
The best thing was when he saved my soul, and helped me to believe.
The next thing Mama, I thank Him for, was the day of my birth,
For putting me in the care, of the greatest Mom on earth.

I know I’ve failed all through my life, to let you know how much I care,
I took you for granted time and time, but still you were always there.
To doctor skinned knees and wash dirty faces, and make all the pain go away,
To cook, clean, wash and iron, and care for us kids everyday.

I know you were often weary and tried, but I never heard you complain,
You never got mad or felt sorry for yourself, through all your sorrow and pain.
And Mama now that I am grown and I have children too,
I pray that God will give me strength, to be half as good a parent as you.

Words can never tell you Mama how much you mean to me,
But I hope you know that I’ll love you dearly, throughout all eternity.
I think God must be pleased with the kind of Mother you are,
And if Mothers were stars up in the sky, you’d out shine them all by far.

When I was a baby, you rocked me to sleep,
And dressed me and taught me to talk,
You guided my faltering, hesitant steps
When I first started learning to walk.
And then came the day I started to school,

Excuse this house

Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there,
ours boasts it quite openly, the signs are EVERYWHERE.
For smears are on the windows, little smudges are on the doors,
I should apologize, I guess, for toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children and we played and laughed and read
and if the doorbell doesn't shine, their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times I'm forced to choose the one job or the other;
I'd like to cook and clean and scrub, but first I'll be a mother.

Football Mom

With mouth guard in, and ball in hand
A pass will be made and the crowd will stand.
They will cheer and scream for their home team
And the coach’s face will grin and beam.

The boys on the field will perform a great play
That will bring the team victory
And touchdowns will be made

Flips and slams, turns and fumbles
I see my mom cringe
When it’s me getting pummeled

She hates the violence and the aggression that occurs,

This is for all the mothers who froze their buns off on metal bleachers at soccer games instead of watching from cars, so that when their kids asked, "Did you see my goal?" They could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who have sat up all night with sick children in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Meyer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's OK honey, Mommy's here."

This is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the night and can't find their children. This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see and for the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes and for all the mothers who don't.

What makes a good mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time? Or is it heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time?

The jolt that takes you from sleeping to dread, from bed to crib at 2 a.m. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby?

Is it the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a school shooting, a fire, a car accident, a baby dying?

I think so.

So this is for all the mothers who sat down with their children and explained all about making babies. And for all the mothers who wanted to but just couldn't.

This is for reading "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year. And then reading it again, "Just one more time".

This is for all the mothers who mess up. Who yell at their kids in grocery store and swat them in despair and stomp their feet like a tired two year old who wants ice cream before dinner.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started to school and for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.

For all the mothers who bite their lips (sometimes until they bleed) when their 14 year olds dyed their hair green.

This is for all the mothers who lock themselves in the bathroom when babies keep crying and won't stop.

This is for all mothers who show at work with spit-up in their hair and milkstains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.

This is for mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for all mothers whose heads turn automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home or are grown.

This is for mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their children's graves.

This is for all the mothers whose children have gone astray and who can't find words to reach them.

This is for all the mothers who sent their child to school with a stomach ache, assuring that they would be just FINE once they got there, only to get a call from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up right away.

This is for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let go.

For working moms and stay-at-home moms. Single mothers and married mothers.

Mothers with money and mothers without.

This is for you, so hang in there. The world would be a terrible place without the love of mothers everywhere. You make it a more civil, caring and safe place for the precious children in our world.

I had a rough time with three kids by myself,
And I know that I didn't do well.
Counseling, fights, children's services, courts:
What I put you through must have been hell.
But I loved you - all of you - all of that time,
When my heart seemed to break every day,
When crushed, and crushed, and crushed against stones,
I would that the wind were my way.

And I tried - how I tried - to be what you needed

But often the fantasy crashed and exploded,

Gone Too Soon

I love you mama, and I want you to know.
I didn't get to tell you, but I think you may know.
I love you mama for all you have done.
I wish everyday that you weren't gone.

I didn't realize life could go so fast,
I wish it wasn't you, I wish you were last.
I wish it was me, so then you could see,
How hard it is when I cannot sleep.

I forget sometime that you can still see,
I hope I have made you proud of me.
I feel I have failed because I feel so worthless,
My outlook on life has grown less and less.

I miss you mama so much you don't know,
I wish all the time that I could go.
I know that God needed someone new,
And I know he will take good care of you.

I'm sorry life was so hard on us,
To realize how you suffered just tears me up.
It's all on me, mama, now I see,
All the things you dealt with that I thought were so easy.

I would leave you at home thinking you were fine,
I just needed some air, I wasn't gone a long time.
I didn't realize what went on when I left,
I'm so sorry mama, I should have stayed, not left.

All the pain and suffering I'm still feeling now,
I'm so confused because I can't figure out,
How God can take someone so good and so kind,
And leave all the horrible and hateful ones behind.

Will my days get better and my nights get longer,
Will I meet someone who will take me further.

Mama Ruby and Aunt Janice will take care of me,
You see they share the same pain with me.

Even though we don't speak of the suffering and pain,
We know we all miss you, and do the best we can.
We do the best we can to go on with our day,
We know in our minds God couldn't let you stay.

Mama I have one more question you see,
How will I feel when I get married?
You are going to miss the best day of my life,
That's why I keep on asking God, "Why?"

What about when I have my own kids,
They will never see how great their grandma is.
But do not worry because I'll let them know,
Every detail about you, their faces will glow.

Mama I wrote this for you and others to see,

Life here on Earth was not all a waste,

God said "why do you need a phone line to heaven my child"?
I said " well God I used to phone my mum every other day
when she was here on earth"

SHE MILKED OUR HUGE BLACK COW
EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT,
SHE WAS UP AND WORKING
JUST AT THE BEGINNING OF DAYLIGHT.

MY MOTHER SEWED AND MADE OUR CLOTHES
CANNED VEGGIES AND MADE SOAP,
SHE WASHED ON A WASHBOARD
PULLED WATER FROM A WELL BY A ROPE.

MOTHER NEVER COMPLAINED AS SHE HUNG HER WASH
ON A CLOTHESLINE IN THE YARD,
SHE COOKED US DELICIOUS MEALS
NEVER SAYING SHE WAS JUST TOO TIRED.

HER PIES AND CAKES ALL WERE FROM SCRATCH
THE CHOCOLATE ICING WAS EXTRA THICK AND GOOD,
I HAVE TRIED TO DO ALL SHE DID DO
BUT SO FAR IT SEEMS I NEVER COULD.

THE DRIED APPLES AND PRESERVES
SUGAR COOKIES AND SNOW-CREAM,
ALL THESE WERE WINTER TREATS
TO SAMPLE AGAIN WOULD BE IN A DREAM.

MOTHER HAS BEEN GONE FOR MANY YEARS
I MISS OUR TIME TOGETHER EVERY DAY,
IF ONLY SHE COULD VISIT US AGAIN

Once there were two people, who never knew each other.
One you do not remember, the other you call mother.
Two different lives shaped to make yours one.
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.

Some houses try to hide the fact
that children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly,
the signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows,
little smudges on the doors,
I should apologize, I guess,
for toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children
and we played and laughed and read;
And if the doorbell doesn't shine,
their eyes will shine instead.

Mama's Hands

I saw you hide your hands in line, behind that lady fair,
I noticed too, hers soft and white - immaculate from care.
But Ma, I say, it’s no disgrace to have workin’ hands like you,
And had she lived the life you have, she’d have hands just like that too.

But her hands have never hauled in wood, or worked in God’s good earth.
They’ve never felt the bitter cold, or chopped ice for waitin’ stock,
They’ve never doctored sick ones, or dressed a horse’s hock.
They’ve never pulled a hip-locked calf, or packed water to the barn.
They’ve probably never patched blue jeans, or had worn ol’ socks to darn.

They’ve never touched a young’n, or caressed a fevered head,
With hands so gently folded, all night beside his bed.

They’ve never scrubbed a kitchen floor, or done dishes everyday.
They’ve never guided with those hands a child who’s lost the way.

They’ve never made a Christmas gift, shaped by a lovin’ hand.
They’ve never peeled apples, nor vegetables they’ve canned.
They’ve never worn a blister, or had calluses to show,
For all they’ve done for others, and the kindnesses I know.

So you see, my dearest Mama – yours are hands of love.
And I bet the Lord will notice when he greets you from above.

HAVE YOU EVER MARVELED AT THE BEAUTY OF SPRING,
A FEW DROPS OF WARM SPRINKLING RAIN.
SOON LITTLE BUDS POP UP TO OPEN INTO LOVELY FLOWERS,
GOD SENT THEM WATER IN THE FORM OF SHOWERS.

WHILE ON EARTH MAMA CARRIED A POCKET OF SEEDS,

SHE WORKED, SHE HOED, SHE PLANTED WITH CARE,

GOD'S ROSE GARDEN CAPTURED HER EYE.
SO NOW SHE KEEPS BUSY - THERE'S LOTS TO DO,
FILLING THE CLOUDS WITH WATER IN A SKY OF BLUE.

HER LITTLE SPRINKLING CAN WILL NEVER RUST AWAY,
THERE'S PLENTY TO DO IN GOD'S GARDEN EVERY DAY.
SO WHEN YOU SEE A RAIN CLOUD MOVING ACROSS THE SKY,
IT WILL BE FULL OF WATER - AND YOU'LL KNOW WHY.

MAMA IS HAPPY DOING THIS WONDERFUL DAILY JOB,
SO WHEN YOU THINK OF HER - DON'T BE SAD OR SOB.
EACH YEAR THE FLOWERS WILL HAVE A NEW BIRTH,
AS THEY SPRING FORTH FROM THE WARMTH OF EARTH.

SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT EVEN SEE A BUTTERFLY,
AS IT FLUTTERS ACROSS THE SUMMER SKY.
IT'S MAMA AS SHE VISITS HER GARDEN HERE ON A SUNNY DAY,
THEN BACK TO HEAVEN SHE WILL RETURN TO STAY.

THE FLOWERS DRINK THE RAIN THAT MAMA SPRINKLES DOWN,
THEY BLOOM AND SOON COVER THE AREA ALL AROUND.
ACROSS HEAVEN, WITH A SPRINKLING CAN, SHE'S TRAVELED MANY A MILE,

I remember my Mother busy with her flowers. She took
very good care of them and always was planting new
bulbs, getting cuttings from a neighbor to start a
pot of her own. trying to save what she could when
the harsh winters arrived. She loved Angel Wing
Begonias. My Grandmother also had lots of flowers
blooming in her yard. There would be Tiger Lilies,
and I also remember her old dented dish pans of
Moss Roses sitting in the back yard on a dead tree
stump. The bright colors sparkling in the sun. When
spring arrives and the Butterflies come to visit ---
I know these two precious ladies are near.

Mam i can't accept that you are gone,

When God set the world in place, when He hung the stars up in space,
when He made the land and the sea, then He made you and me.

He sat back and saw that was good, He saw things to be as they should.
Just one more blessing He had in store; He created a mother,

and to soothe his feelings.

But now-things are going to be different.

This morning, he's going to walk down the front steps,
wave his hand and start on his great adventure
that will probably include wars and tragedy and sorrow.

To live his life in the world he has to live in will require
faith and love and courage.

So, World, I wish you would sort of take him by his young hand
and teach him the things he will have to know. Teach him-but gently, if you can.
Teach him that for every scoundrel there is a hero;
that for every crooked politician there is a dedicated leader;
that for every enemy there is a friend.
Teach him the wonders of books.

Give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky,
bees in the sun, and flowers on the green hill.
Teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat.

Teach him to have faith in his own ideas,
even if everyone else tells him they are wrong.
Teach him to sell his brawn and brains to the highest bidder,
but never to put a price on his heart and soul.

Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob...
and to stand and fight if he thinks he's right.

Teach him gently, World, but don't coddle him,
because only the test of fire makes fine steel.

This is a big order, World, but see what you can do.

my mother made a meatloaf

My mother made a meat loaf
that provided much distress,
she tried her best to serve it,
but she met with no success,
her sharpest knife was powerless
to cut a single slice,
and her efforts with a cleaver
failed compleatly to sufice.

She whacked it with a hammer,
and she smacked it with a brick,
but she couldn't phase that meat loaf,
it remained without a nick,
I decided I would help her
and assailed it with a drill,
but the drill made no impression,
though I worked with all my skill.

We chipped at it with chisels,
but we didn't make a dent,
it appeared my mother's meat loaf
was much harder than cement,
then we set upon the meat loaf
with a hatchet and an ax,
but that meat loaf stayed unblemished
and withstood our fierce attacks.

We borrewed bows and arrows,
and we firesd at close range,
it didn't make a difference,
for that meatloaf didn't change,
we beset it with a blow torch,
but we couldn't find a flaw,
and we both were flabbergasted
when it broke the power saw.

We hired a hippopotamus
to trample it around,
but that meat loaf was so mighty
that it simply stood its ground,
now we manufacture meat loaves
by the millions, all year long,
they are famous in construction,
building houses tall and strong.

My mothers love is like a lose not

My Son Raised his Right Hand Today

I watched my son raise his hand today,
Not the easiest thing to do,
Raising his hand for one of the greatest oaths,

So Dear Major General,
He's really a young boy you know,

I know the Army will instill in him,

My Surprise Gift

It didn't come trimmed with ribbon or topped off with a bow,
I didn't find it wrapped in pretty paper, under the tree or mistletoe.
It wasn't something we planned to purchase, it didn't cost one cent.
It wasn't something I new I wanted or asked for as a present.
It didn't even realize it was something I would need,
I had long forgotten about Santa, until I saw it and had to believe.
It came on a whim, as we were trimming the tree for the season,
It came just in time, and for all the right reasons.
This picture of us, a daughter and her mom,
Smiling into the camera and having a good time.
It filled me with happiness, joy and glee,
To see you there smiling so sweetly with me.
It made my heart sputter and skip a beat,
To hold you in my arms seems quite a treat.
It seems like the last time was so long ago,
Because, Oh My, how ever so quickly you grow.
It reminded me I need to take time each year,
To capture you smiling with me from ear to ear.

Once upon a Time..... There was a child waiting to be born

The child asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
today but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless.
God said,"From all my many angels, I chose a special one just for
you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child said, "And how will I understand when people talk to me
if I don't know the language that men talk on Earth?"
God replied, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet
words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your
angel will teach you how to speak.

"And God," said the child, "What am I going to do when I want to
talk to you?"
God said,"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach
you how to pray, and I will hear you."

Then the child, "I've heard that on earth there are bad people and

The child said, "But I will always be sad because I will not see you
anymore."

saved and come back to me. Through her you will know that I am always

Classy women never show their toes in public.
Real mothers go barefoot as often as they can.

Classy women are always dressed up.
Real mothers don't comb their hair before lunch on Saturday and shed their work clothes the moment they come through the door.

Classy women never yell.
Real mothers scream their heads off when their children are bleeding, playing in a football game, or about to do something they aren't supposed to do.

Classy women read newspapers and ten-pound tomes on the New York Times best-seller list.
Real mothers read the comics first thing in the morning and picture books at bedtime. During lunch, mothers read dog-eared books about how to discipline their children properly.

Classy women do not eat leftovers from their children's plates or lick the spoon after mixing chocolate icing.
Real mothers do, and consequently gain two pounds per child per year for the rest of their lives.

Classy women cook exotic entrees like lamb and goose.
Real mothers order truckloads of pizza and know that thin hamburgers are better than thick ones. In a pinch, though, they can whip up a bowl of spaghetti.

Classy women never lose their dignity.
Real mothers hang dignity in a closet and pull it out only for family photos and parent-teacher conferences.

REFLECTION OF MOTHER

Today, I looked in the mirror;
Curious as to what I would see.
I expected to see my reflection
Staring back at me.

But as I looked, I saw something more
In the face that was there.
I saw the reflection of my mother;
A woman filled with care.

Each year is another year closer
To looking like my Mother.
I see her in my reflection,
In one way or another.

May I not only look like her
But, reflect her heart as well.
For, it's full of love and kindness;
God's goodness in a nutshell.

Another year closer to looking like mom,
That only makes me glad.
For, I love my beautiful Mother.
She's the best reflection I've ever had.

You weren't a saint but you were extremely close.
Out of all of the people on Earth, I've always loved you the most.
It will be very painful as they lower you into the ground.
Life will never be the same because you're no longer around.

You were a wonderful human being and a terrific mother too.
Your family and friends will always love you.
You were so sweet and kind that you should've been given a humanitarian award.
The people in Heaven are happy because you're there and so is the Lord.

You're in a better place and that makes your friends and family glad.
But as people see the tears rolling down my cheeks, they know that I'm so sad.
You were one fantastic lady, you were truly one of a kind.
Knowing that Heaven is your new home gives us peace of mind.

The doctors did everything they could to save you but it wasn't a success.
I knew you were dead when I saw you lying on the hospital bed motionless.
When the nurse examined you, she confirmed that you were gone.
I knew life would never be the same and it would be hard to go on.

You were buried with a stuffed Easter Bunny and a card that I bought for you.
When they lowered you into the ground, saying goodbye was hard to do.
You died on a Wednesday which was your least favorite day.
It has been six years since the date when you passed away.

This year, the anniversary of your death has landed on Wednesday.
You despised that day of the week and your death made my life gray.
When you were in the hospital, you were also visited by your niece.
You were the greatest mother on the planet, may you Rest in Peace.

Seasons Of Our Life
As Mothers, we are special.
There is no nobler call.
We are the Masterpiece of God.
He designed us, one and all.

His plans are always perfect.
With each season, there comes change
And, just as Summer follows Spring,
Each life He has arranged.

In the springtime of our youth,
A mother's love is always near.
She shows us how to serve the Lord,
In the growth of tender years.

She loves us unconditionally,
Has patience beyond measure.
She cultivates our eager hearts and
Thanks God for this great treasure.

As this season of our life
Gives way to summer's sun,
It's in these years we blossom
And a new phase has begun.

As a mother, she knows that danger
Into this season will creep.
So, with a prayerful heart, on bending knees,
She prays our souls He'll keep.

We're no longer tiny babies,
When a kiss could heal our pain.
It's then she listens, with her heart,
And quiets tears that fall like rain.

We, slowly, start to break the ties
Of Mother's apron strings
And, right before her very eyes,
Her little child takes wing.

Her years of prayer and teaching
Are now put to the test
As we begin the search for love,
Which is a awesome quest.

She prays that we are listening
To the sound of God's still voice.
For, if we are, she knows that "He"
Will help us make the choice.

Then, once again, the seasons change,
As we listen to God's call,
And, now, her child has made the journey
Through summer into fall.

It's in this season that life begins
The circle to complete,
As our lives change and we understand,
With the patter of little feet.

We now can know and comprehend
Just what our mother meant
When we heard her thank our God, above,
For the miracle that He sent.

Now, we will teach our children,
Just as to us was taught,
That Jesus gave His life for them
And their soul His blood has bought.

We'll teach our children to love the Lord,
As they sit down at our knee,
And, as we bow our heads to pray,
We'll remember our mother's plea.

We, too, will thank our God, above,
For the children in our arms
And with prayerful hearts on bending knees,
Pray He'll keep them safe from harm.

Now, we will watch, as our children journey
From spring and on through fall.
As they grow in spirit and in truth,
They will answer to God's call.

It's then, as Grandmothers, we reflect
On the seasons and all they've blessed,
As we step into tomorrow
And the years of winter's rest.

It's in this season we look back
At our joys and all our trials.
With thankful hearts, we turn to God
And thank Him for every mile.

God's presence has always surrounded us.
He, now, keeps us free from strife
As we journey into the future,

She is a woman

As we go through life day by day.
We need our Mother’s to show us the way

We alone end up lost, most of the days

Years pass by so quick! Before I knew it my Mom was sick.
This was not how I envisioned my life would be
For without her ,Who will guide me?
She said,� I must tell you something before I Go.�
“It’s in regards of your stepping stones.�
“When I am gone and you feel all alone,
Make sure you follow your stepping stones�
The first I laid years ago. Remember when you moved
out on your own.
The second came a few years later. Remember when your
two boys came home.
The third I lay down , for now I am gone.
Remember you must carry on. Remember you can’t carry all your stones.
Forget the bad of the past for it is not what it seems
Start fresh with step three and remember me.
Only a mother knows where to help place your stepping stones.
Without her to guide me. I will carry them alone.
You see, I didn’t really listen to what her heart was speaking to me
However today for the first time in years. I heard her true heart whispers to me.
STAND on three and just remember me!
For before she left me she set my heart free!
To Open my heart to the mother that is still here with me

I have always loved butterflies and in watching them as they
spend their time on earth floating from one flower to another,
I see them as An Angel - their beauty so unique. Their tiny
wings carrying them as they flutter through the air. I think
Angels are enclosed in these tiny bodies so they can be near
us and yet we don't see them, but they can guard us and they
know our sorrows, our dreams, they feel our loss and give us
hope for tomorrow. There is beauty in a butterfly and they
help us to smile and want to drift on a field of happiness.

In this wild life of mine,
I have met many people
Seen a thousand faces

Some were false,

The Mommy Test

THE MOMMY TEST

I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter. She picked up
something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked.

"Because it's been lying outside, you don't know where it's
been, it's dirty and probably has germs" I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration
and asked, "Wow! How do you know all this stuff?" "Uh," .I was thinking quickly, " All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test.

You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy."
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was
evidently pondering this new information.

"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test
you have to be the daddy."
"Exactly" I replied back with a big smile on my face and joy
in my heart.

THE MOTHERS ROLE

A mother has two roles in her life,
One is the mother, the other the wife.
One brings to life a child to love,
A perfect being sent from above.
The other to love her man through life,
To which she sometimes pays the price.
She loves her man but won’t give in,
To protect her child through thick and thin.
The wife will lie, the mother protects,
The marriage struggles, on the child reflects.
The child grows up and drifts are made,
The role of mother will gently fade,
The wife’s role strengthens as three makes two,
And now the mothers role is new.
She now has three roles in her life,
The mother, the grandmother and still the wife.
The older she gets the more roles she lives,
These roles make her happy because she gives.
As she is nearing the end of her days,
She looks back on all her fondness with praise.
She would never trade all the hard work at all,
She watches them grow, and waits for her call.
Once she has gone and left loved ones behind,
All her roles are remembered as one of a kind.

There's a deep pain within my soul
It feels like my heart has a big hole
a pain so deep that it hurts to breathe
Oh,God when will this pain ever leave me
Each and everyday I pray that this pain will ease away
today I often think and wonder why
my sweet mom had to die
but i know God looks low and sits high
and she's with him now beyond the sky
It's so hard to say good bye
and all I do is sit and cry
I close my eyes and say a good prayer
that when I open them she will be there

THE SINGLE MOTHER'S CLUB

We are the moms who were scared to realise we were pregnant. We were the moms who had to grow up.

We were the moms had to fight back tears when the baby's father left.

We are the moms who smile ear to ear when our baby's moved in our tummys for the first time.

We were the moms who had to go into labor all by ourselfs, feeling scared and all alone.

We are the moms who saw our baby's for the first time ever, feeling proud and overjoyed.

We are the moms who watched everything first...first tooth, first crawl, first steps, first haircut, first everything.

We are the moms who get to go through the terriable two, and three's and still we put a smile on our faces for our children, when sometimes we want to cry.

We are the moms who fight back tears while bringing their child to preschool or kindergarten, thinking to themselves, time flys by to fast.

We are the moms who have to tell the children why they don't have a "daddy" in their life like the other kids do.

We are the moms who are up to their necks trying to get their children to do their homework when all the children really want to do is go play.

We are the moms who take their children to soccer, football, ballet, and never once get a break for themselves.

We are the moms who suddently have to explain the birds and the bee's to our children, but yet we think their to young for this.

We are the moms who let their teens go on their first date and think back to the day they brought them home for the hospital.

We are the moms who argue and fight with their teenager about going to parties and changing their times to be home by.

We are the moms who want to take as many pictures as they can while the kids are late to go to their prom.

We are the moms who are so proud of our kids when they take that deploma out of the teachers hand, as they graduate highschool.

We are the moms who don't fight back the tears when we send our children away to college.

We are the moms who had to do it alone, without the childs father. We are the moms who have to be stong for our kids when sometimes we want to break down and cry. We are the moms who have to depend on ourselfs, but you know what? You were worth it!!!

The Truth

The truth is......I loved my mom tremendously
you see and when she died,it took apart of me
Apart that i don't know,if I'll ever get it back
My life just feels like one big train wreck
I thought people said that it would get easier
but that don't seem to me to be true
This pain it bares deep within my soul
and I don't know if and when it will ever go
but i'll continue to pray to God each day
That he will ease this pain away
I sit and think and wish my mom was still here
Just to hear her voice and know she near
So she could call me and sing a song on the phone

We Have "Two Mothers"

(for a mother with Alzheimer's, from her daughters and son).

We have two mothers two mothers we claim.
Two different people yet with the same name.
Two separate women diverse by design, but we love them both dearly they both are divine.
The first is the mother who carried us here, gave birth and nurtured and launched our careers.
She's the one whose features we bear, complete with the facial expressions we wear.
She gave us deep faith that follows us yet.
Along with examples in life that she set.
Then as we got older she some younger grew, and we'd laugh as just mothers and their children do.
And then came the year that her mind clouded so, and we sensed that the mother we'd known soon would go.
As quickly she changed and turned into the other.
A stranger who dressed in the clothes of our mother.
Oh, she looked the same at least at arm's length, but she was the child now and we were her strength.
We've come full circle, we children and she.
Our mother, the first the second and we.
And if our own children should come to a day, when a new parent comes and the old goes away.
We'd ask of them nothing that we didn't do, love both of those parents as both have loved you.

Mama is the sweetest name, we'll always hold her dear,
We'll cherish the memories of her year after year.
Mama had a lot of love to give and was always close by,
But we know the soul lives on and that she'll never die.
The day of one's death is better than the day of one's birth,

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.

2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they
mostly use string, I think.

1. We're related.

2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms
like me.

1. My Mom has always been my Mom and none of that other

2. She got too old to do anything else with him.

3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap

1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's
such a goof ball.

2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff
under the bed.

3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do
than dad.


What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work & work at home, & dads just go to work at work.

2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real
friend's.

4. Moms have magic; they make you feel better without
medicine.


What does your Mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.


What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some
kind of plastic surgery.

2. Diet. You know, her hair.. I'd diet, maybe blue.


If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean.
I'd get rid of that.

2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my
sister who did it and not me.

3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on
her back.

What Mom Took

Most often when we think of Mom,
we think of what she’s given
The softness of a loving touch, a gentle
guide for living,
A nightly tip toe in a room, an
understanding look
But sometimes when I think of Mom……
I think of what she took.
She took a child and taught it how to live this

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

and I knew that little things are special things.

What Do Women Do All Day
Every minute, to and fro,
That's the way my hours go;
Bring me this, and take me that,
Feed the dog, take out the cat.
Standing up I eat my toast,
Drink my coffee, thaw the roast.
Empty the garbage, make the bed,
Rush to church, then wash my head.
Sweep the kitchen, wax the floor,
Scrub the woodwork, clean the doors;
Scour the bathtub, then myself;
Vacuum carpets, straighten shelves.
Eat my sandwich on the run...
Now my afternoon's begun.
To the baseball game I go,
When will there be time to sew?
Meet the teacher, stop the fight,
See the dentist, fly the kite.
Help with homework, do the wash,
Iron clothes, put on the squash.
Shop for groceries, cash a check,
Fight the crowds, now I'm a wreck;
Dinner time it soon will be,
"What's for dinner?" they ask,
Wait and see.
Dirty dishes crowd the sink,
Next there's popcorn, then a drink.
Will they never go to bed?
Will I ever get ahead?
"Bring me water." "Get the light."
Turn off the TV, lock the bike.
"Where's my pillow?" "Hear me prayers."
"Did you lock the door downstairs?"
At last in bed, my spouse and I,
Too tired to move, to weak to cry.
