MAMA SURE KNOWS HOW TO GET US CLEAN

SHE NEVER MISSES NARY A SPOT
SHE USES FOR A BATHTUB, A SOUP BOWL.
MAMA HAS JUST THE RIGHT THING TO USE
A TOOTHBRUSH COMES IN RIGHT HANDY,
SHE PROMISES IF WE ARE GOOD
SHE WILL TREAT US WITH PEPPERMINT CANDY.
MAMA WANTS US TO BE SPOTLESS CLEAN

I FEEL LIKE ALL MY HAIR HAS FALLEN OUT.

MANY SOAP BUBBLES FLOAT THROUGH THE AIR.
WHEN I GOT OUT I WAS FREEZING

THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER
FELT LIKE A HIGH OF TWENTY-TWO !
MAMA JUST KEPT ON WASHING HER BABIES
A JOB SHE DOES ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY,
BUT WE SOON FORGET AND SOON GET DIRTY
AS OUTSIDE WE SCRAMBLE AROUND AND PLAY.
BUT FOR NOW WE ARE GETTING SLEEPY
IN THE SHED IS AN OLD RAGGED CAP,
SOMEONE HUNG IT THERE A LONG TIME AGO
WE'LL CURL UP WITH MAMA AND TAKE A NAP.
THERE ARE FOUR OF US WEE BABIES
THAT GOT A BATH TODAY,
AHHH THIS SPOT SURE FEELS GOOD
A NEST FILLED WITH SOFT CLEAN HAY.

I like to write poems about animals. So
many children's storybooks are written as
though they think and talk like us. I
don't think I would want to be scrubbed
with a toothbrush - the bristles might just
scratch - i can just see those little mice,
their clean pink toes all curled into a ball.
That old cat better leave them be.

From the second you were born, you became an integral part of our life
Love of family developed into a major component, forming a connection

From infancy to adult you have made our life complete and fulfilling,
Assembling a life of adequate significance desired.
We’ve gained far more from you, than we ever gave.
