Proverbs Poems for Cards and Scrapbooks
Benjamin Franklin's 13 Virtues - (not really a "poem")
1. TEMPERANCE - Eat not to dullness. Drink not to elevation.
2. SILENCE - Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself. Avoid trifling conversation.
3. ORDER - Let all your things have their places. Let each part of your business have it's time.
4. RESOLUTION - Resolve to perform what you ought. Perform with out fail what you resolve.
5. FRUGALITY - Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself: i.e., waste nothing.
6. INDUSTRY - Lose no time. Be always employed in something useful. Cut off all unnecessary actions.
7. SINCERITY - Use no hurtful deceit. Think innocently and justly; and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
8. JUSTICE - Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
9. MODERATION - Avoid extremes. Forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
10. CLEANLINESS - Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes, or habitation.
11. TRANQUILITY - Be not disturbed as trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
12. CHASTITY - Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.
13. HUMILITY - Imitate Jesus and Socrates.

dance like no one is watching
We convince ourselves that life will be better after
we get married, have a baby, then another.
Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough
and we'll be more content when they are.
After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.
We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.
We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our
spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer
car, are able to go on a nice vacation,or when we retire.
The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now.
If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.
Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have
and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special,
special enough to spend your time with...and remember that time
waits for no one.
So, stop waiting
--until your car or home is paid off
--until you get a new car or home
--until your kids leave the house
--until you go back to school
--until you lose ten pounds
--until you gain ten pounds
--until you finish school
--until you get a divorce
--until you get married
--until you have kids
--until you retire
--until summer
--until spring
--until winter
--until fall
--until you die
There is no better time than RIGHT NOW to be happy.
Happiness is a JOURNEY, not a destination.
So -- work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching.

Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
May God be with you and bless you:
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.
May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you

Jesus Baby Poem
THE GIFT OF A CHILD
God has blessed the union
Of a husband and a wife
With a beautiful little baby
Bringing joy into their lives
For children are blessings
Sent from God above
A precious gift heaven sent
An expression of God’s love
On the foundation of this love
May this child truly grow
Discovering the truths of God
And to one day come to know
That Jesus Christ is Lord of all
And He has an awesome plan
A destiny only they can fulfil
As they take Him by the hand
And walk with Him every day
With God’s vision for their lives
And godly passion to fulfil
The commission of Jesus Christ.

Others
It doesn't matter who you are,
Or what you have, or do
If you give of your very best
The best returns to you.
A law of compensation works,
We get just what we earn.
If we love others with our hearts,
We get love in return.
The little things we sometimes do
for others day by day
Return quite unexpectedly
In some peculiar way.

THE SECRET
THE SECRET
I met God in the morning
when my day was at its best,
And His presence came like sunrise,
Like a glory in my breast.
All day long the Presence lingered,
All day long He stayed with me,
And we sailed in perfect calmness
O'er a very troubled sea
Other ships were blown and battered,
Other ships were sore distressed,
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Brought to us a peace and rest.
Then I thought of other mornings,
With a keen remorse of mind,
When I too had loosed the moorings,
With the Presence left behind.
So I think I know the secret,
Learned from man a troubled way;
You must seek Him in the morning
If you want Him through the day!
